Yojimbo owners, speak up!

#1

Post by Billy »

I am anxiously looking forward to the arrival of my NIB blue Yojimbo! I have read some reviews on this board from a few years back and am very excited about this latest aquisition. Mr. Cook and any other Yo fans/users/admirers, please post up your feelings about this great Janich design and some pics too if you don't mind! :D :D :D

Very unusual but effective MBC specific designed knife ! If I could EDC stuff like this I would do so in a heartbeat.

Mine is apparently a bit unusual in that it has jimping climbing down from the spine down toward the tip. Anyone else have this on their Yoyo's as well or is it just me ?

I have moderately large hands with long fingers. The Yojimbo handle is an excellent fit for me. And the sharp, modified wharnie blade makes it a great EDC.

That's something i've never noticed before on a Yojimbo.

I'm curious - what's the manufacture date on the box?

Dan,
I guess it is just you if you ask me :)

Here are a few shots of my Yojimbo from different angles...

The Yo is one of the all-time best Spyderco designs to me. It is a complete sd tool. It is effective as a impact device and cutter! It will serve you well if ever pressed into action....of course with moderate training. Take care and God Bless! :D

Thanks for the words and pics all. Can't wait to get my Yo!

Dan, that's pretty cool with the jimping going down the front of the blade. Don't think I've ever seen another like that.

Billy,

Not sure if you read my thread on the Yo yet, but it contains "my thoughts", some pics, and a pretty good discussion on the subject with input from many people including Mr. Janich himself. IMHO, the discussion my review spurred makes it worth the read.

Hey Ghostrider, yes, your review was one of the ones I was referring to. Great write up! That was the one that really got me salivating while waiting for the knife to show up. Pakornl, thanks for the great pics! I do like this knife in black too!

Well, snapped a few pics this morning of the new Yojimbo and some friends. My pics are nowhere near some of y'alls quality, but try to enjoy them anyway! :o

it would be awesome if spyderco re-released the yojimbo and the ronin in a paired set together.

I would also love it if Spyderco came out with a sprint run of Yojimbos or Ronins. I bought four Swicks from the last sprint run. I'll buy any of their SD-oriented, highly ergonomic, wharncliffes in bulk.

I'd especially love it if my blue-handled Yojimbo could wind up with a recently manufactured black (or grey carbon-fiber)-handled brother. Especially if it were bigger.

As it stands I have half a mind to buy a Benchmade Rukus 610 and have Tom Krein grind the blade into as much of a wharncliffe as possible. Even then, the handle would be inferior.

I think the Yoji is a very nice design. I don't use mine much. If I'm ever in the mood to use a wharncliffe blade, I just reach for one of my Swicks.

Yojimbo is a great knife, but I happen to prefer longer blades on my handles (despite being a Para fan).

Also, put your thumb all the way up the blade (removing the "space" between thumb and handle). You can really work the blade well in this grip.
