From my wife, and I, and all at Spyderco forums, we wish all his familly, friends, and his loved ones, and coleages all the confort and peace this world has to offer! We are all so sorry! Many thoughts, and prayers are with them.

I used to know Mr. Lum. Not personally, but through his creations.
Farewell old friend, we will allways think of you fondly. May you rest in peace.

Hello..

Bob was my cousin..
he was a great human being..always smiling..always joking..
Our lives got busy..and I did not get to visit with Bob as much as I wanted to..but when we did get that chance..we spent so much time talking about knives, firearms, photography, good food, and the outdoors.

I will miss him..I am glad I got the chance to visit with him this summer on a trip through Eugene.

I am lucky in that I have a knife he made for my father..it was way back when Bob started his passion for knives..it is a small fixed blade with his maker's mark handscribed with the #6. I will cherish this blade as it was my father's and made by Bob.

I will miss him.. I know I am better for knowing him..and knowing his passion for all the great things in life...may he RIP.

RIP Bob Lum. My condolences to his family and friends.
We need locking :spyder: folders, at least a D4, with very small :spyder:holes (no one-hand function, only trademark) for legal carry in Germany!

If I could only keep one of all my knives, it probably would be a D4.

Stuart, thanks for taking the time to register, log in , and tell your story about your cousin and post those wonderfull pictures.Even that far back on his #6 knife you could see the simple , yet elegant ergonomic style he became known for. What a talent!

Hopefully one day a museum, or book will chronicle his work. He had an effect on a lot of other knifemakers as well as collectors as Ed Schempp relates. If there is ever a book chronicling his work try to see to it that the#6 knife he gave your father is in it as even that early in his knifemaking career he showed a distinct style.

Welcome, and thanks Stuart for your moving story. Regards, Joe

I, too, only knew mr. Lum through his work. He was an amazingly gifted knife designer who could combine good looks with function in his knives. Just consider his customs, the Americanized Tanto (like the Cold Steel variations from the 80s and 90s) and of course his work with Spyderco. The Lum Chinese Folder is my favorite collaboration model. He truly left a legacy in the knifeworld, just like Mr. Moran did.

My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

We do have a Bob Lum ZDP Chinese folder in the works. It's been slow coming, but still in pipeline.

Perhaps in the future?

The 2nd Spyderco I ever bought was the G-10 LUM Tanto, I fell in love with this tool, the latest was the Benchmade Dejavoo. I never new him but will miss his news and work.
I'd rather be tried by 12, than carried by 6.
