:spyder: :spyder:  :spyder: :spyder: Hey all; Just giving my humble, and honest opinion, conserning this thread. I have carried, and used our oldest, and our favorite tool(Spyderco)for a long time, and I am not afraid to use any of them for any task in which they were designed to perform! I see all have different opinions on this subject, and I have mine as well...I feel that God gave us this amazing tool to use through out our every day lives, wether it is hunting, for work, God forbid self defense, cooking, preparing food, or openning mail, or M&M packs...After all, they were designed to do the hard tasks, just as they were the simple. Again, just my opinion.

Perhaps in the crime-free, utterly peaceful Czech Republic. But there's more to modern society than that.

How do you put a value on empowerment?

As a farmer I have had a chance to refine impromptu problem solving. A reliable high performance knife is a tool to help solve problems. I feel empowered with tools that help me shape my visions and solve my problems. A knife can play a roll in a wide variety of situations that can't be easily solved without it.

When I'm involved in demanding work situations I often carry a Byrd with an attitude that I will be more than happy to sacrifice the knife to gain some solution. I'm too cheap to willingly sacrifice a Spyderco under normal circumstances. I was very willing to forfeit my mini Persian to German security at the Nuremberg airport after I checked my bags...rather than the alternative. The German police were very nice...Take Care...Ed

Just as an aside, there are few... in fact possibly none (that I know of - important clarification!)... porsche owners (and other sports cars) that push their vehicles anywhere near their design comfort zones ... 99.9% of normal driving is in fact counter to the design of these vehicles.

It is almost impractical to drive a car that lives between 100-250km/h have to chug along at 40-50km/h which is a very common speed limit here.

There are more on the roads than ever before - and it cant be as comfortable as alternatives ... yet still their numbers increase.

The psychology difference, at least in my opinion, is that most sports cars seem to have a need to be seen by others.... whereas the top quality, classy spydie is more likely to live a quieter life out of the spotlight.

Me... I love good design. Whether I use it or not... I just love good design.
