Greetings from Iraq
Greetings from Iraq
Hello folks,
I just wanted to drop a line and thank everybody for helping me pick my knives that I deployed with. I don't know if i'm going to have the time, but I plan on trying to give some "real world" pro's and con's of my knives as they're used in just about the most extreme conditions. I'm sure some of you will cringe when you see how they're used/abused and I would like to sincerely apologize ahead of time. I know better, but sometimes I just don't have a choice.
Obviously, all comments are going to be of my own and in no way reflect any views or endorsements of the Army. It's merely my humble opinion.
I deployed with a military, two natives, a military issue Benchmade and a spyderco tri-angle sharpmaker. I wish I could comment on the military, but unfortunately it "disappeared" (was stolen or dropped) before I had the opportunity to really get to using it. I dunno, but I will say there is somebody somewhere that is using one heck of a knife. I hope to have it replaced with a para sometime soon.
However, through the course of this deployment I hope to post some pics of my spydies in action. I may have to mooch off of somebody else that has the ability to host pics. I don't have the bandwidth here.
I don't have the opportunity to check the forums often so please bear with me or send a PM. It may take me some time, but I will eventually get to it.
Anyhow, I have to get going. I'm looking forward to doing this and hope you enjoy it as well. First review should be a week or two.

train hard and stay safe!
:spyder: I'll bet you can make good side money with that sharpmaker sharpening other soldiers dull knives!
when I was a grunt (11B) there were very few straight legs who knew how to sharpen a knife (me included) :) :spyder:

Good luck. I'll be thinking of you. If you come back through my hometown of Bangor, Maine, get off the plane and stretch. There'll be a group of "troop greeters" to welcome you, any time, day or night. Hugs, coffee and doughnuts, free phone cards.
God bless you and God bless America!

Looking forward to hearing how the spydies hold up.
Don't ever feel depressed or down about what people might say to you with regards to your service.
Know there are people out there who admire and value beyond words the sacrifice you are making, even if they be from another country.
I don't care if one argues whether it's right or wrong the fact remains you are on the ground facing insurmountable odds for, what appears for the most part, to be an ungrateful people. (no one on this forum ofcouse)
If I could, I'd shake your hand.
Stay safe, I know you're ARMY not USMC but still; Semper Fi.

Enjoy the Midnight Chow(MMMM...!), and stay safe over there!
While you're there, enter the lottery for the OIF Native III! I wrote Spyderco a letter while I was in Iraq, basically telling them how I'd been carrying one or the other of their knives for several years, and a several weeks later I received a happy box from them containing a shiny new tan Native III! I was floored!
