newb Q: what's all the acronyms?
I can figure out some of them but a lot of them leave me :confused:
i read about 40 pages deep over the weekend and I've never seen so many acronyms used on a forum. I think it would be cool if there was a sticky listing all the acronyms used around here :o

FRN - fiberglass reinforced nylon, and CF - Carbon Fiber, would be a couple more common ones.

...and some others like
G-10
VG-10
AUS-6 (8, 10)
S30V
ZDP-189
BG-42
....
are names given to handle materials / steels that are either (more or less) meaningless, or should not bother you because it doesn't matter what i.e. "ZDP" stands for :-) as long as you know that is a (top notch, in this case) steel.
Other acronyms like the already mentioned, or IWB= inside waist band (that one stumped ME for a while :-), RFP= right front pocket, ELU (i think it's "end line user"?) and others are necessary to understand, so it really would make sense to collect it here and/or summarize them all in one post for future new members, if not already done. Possible that the other forum covered that issue....I will take a look when I find the time.

NKP = non-knife person
This is one of Sal Glesser's (Spyderco CEO/Owner) that took me a while to get:
afi = aficionado (someone who is into knives)
You will also see acronyms used for favorite dealers. For example:
NGK = New Graham Knives (They are part of a drug store, so you will also see them referred to as "our favorite pharmacy" or something like that.)
GP = Grand Prairie Knives

I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.

Then there are model numbers, usually look like "C#" (where # stands for numbers) (find out what I'm babbling about here: http://www.spydie.nl/ )
Sometimes particular knife models or types get their own abbreviations:
D4 = 4th Generation Delica
E4 = 4th Generation Endura
CIII = Caly 3
FB = Fixed Blade
The abbreviation LEO shows up frequently = Law Enforcement Officer
Edit: I think this is an imporant thread so I rated it 5 stars. When I first got here, all these same abbreviations stumped me, and I was "too proud" to ask, so I was confused for a long time. Stupid of me. In retrospect, I should have asked.

Some of the old folks use that one quite a lot. I had to use the urbandictionary to figure out what it meant. I knew it meant something like "your view may vary" but I could never figure out what the extra "MM"s were for. Abbreviated mumbling? :Dfellyjr wrote:YMMV = Your mileage may vary

Occasionally on some of the gun forums, you'll see ''TEOTWAWKI.''
Example: ''Which battle rifle would you want for TEOTWAWKI?"
I can't help but chuckle when I see that! Fortunately, I've never seen it actually used here. :cool:
