dvd collection

ugh... too many movies.

I've been collecting movies for about 8-9yrs now. Only have a dozen VHS, the rest are all dvds... and usually the director cuts or special editions.

Had them all in a single book till last summer, moved to 2 books of 208 or so. Had em both at least 1/2 full, was getting to be a hassle to pick a movie (or even find a certain one)

Cleared space in the basement today for my other big book shelf, moved em all back to thier cases and put em out. shelves are 47" wide, and took just under 3 of em to put out, even with only 25 burned. Now the fun comes of putting em all in alphabetical order  and THEN making a log of what the **** I have here. Gonna be a long night.

Here's part of my dvd collection.

I have another section of rare one's that will never get opened, like the Disney Platinum edition dvd's and one's with special packaging.

Um, Patrick, you got this a little bit bassackward.

Start by doing a spreadsheet of everything by name, and then hit the alphabetize button. Life is much easier that way.

I'll post my DVD inventory sheet when I get home.

Only had 218 discs to sort through  Had the suckers organized and the log built around 0200.

dete: I've got a few here that few know of... boondock saints & equilibrium for starters.... ****, I've even got a lord of the rings cartoon :p

fellyjr: "part" ? How many do you have?

uhiforgot: :p Just wait till I do my book collection again (got rid of a couple boxes, gained 3 boxes of computer/tech ones and another box of old sci-fi)

movie shelf is full (3 shelves of dvd's, shelf of my elec tech notes, my old comic books and aviation mags)
main book shelf is over loaded (2 of 9 sections are working on a 3rd row already)
tech book shelf is full (****, I've got a box of 3d rendering software on TOP of the unit)

Think I need another 47"x72" unit built

Organizing 200+ dvds into alphabetical order can be a pain. Here's how I did it (its easier with a friend to help):

Have friend read off the DVD titles, type them into excel. Helps if he roughly sorts as he goes.
Sort alphabetically in excel
Put movies in the order that Excel sorted them.

Now you have them sorted in alpha order and you have a log.

haha,
mine is somewhere around the 250 mark for dvd's currently. i honestly lost count. a friend of mine went out recently to buy some racks to store his in, and found a real nice one at target that holds 93 dvd's... he bought 4. he called me later that night and said he needed to go to another store and get some more.

its a disease i tell you, a horrible disease.

Yeah I don't even have any idea what I have these days. Mostly horror or weird dramas like The Piano Teacher. I have two of those 200+ books full. I'd like to keep them all in their cases on a shelf or something but right now I just don't have the room.

I like having all my music digital. It hardly takes up any physical space at all ;) . Have around 500 albums. I listen to music a lot due to work and my hour commute so I'm always getting into new stuff.

Finally got around to making sure it was alphabetical... fixed titles and used the auto arrange button :p

Including the bonus discs I have 239 on my shelf.

Still need to do my books again

dedguy: There's no way I'd have room here is my music collection was on audio CDs...

Haven't checked lately but I think I have 40gb of mp3's so far, with most of it at 128 quality.
