And how hard can it be to utilize the same blade that is already in circulation (referring to ZDP)? And what are the odds that a white handled (or new colored) Delica won't sell out light white lighting? Look at what happened to the Blue Delica ZDP.

Anyway, my .02.
Simplest answer is that Spyderco's Japanese suppliers consider 1200 pieces the MINIMUM order for any "variation". Best selling Forum model to date sold less than 150 pieces. As for "difficulty", changing color on FRN handles ivolves time. labor, and a certain amount of "waste" as the old color must first be purged from the moulds and from the "injection" system. It's something (but not exactly) like changing colors in a paint sprayer. It's actually easier to change colors in G-10, just a case of buying X number of sheets of the new color and making up new box labels.

IMHO, the blue Delica ZDP sold like hotcakes for a number of reasons, but I really doubt the color was a major factor, heck some were actively complained that they'd have preferred black. From what I've heard, the BRG ones are selling at a much more leisurely pace, and don't think the color is responsible for that either. Think it's just that the novelty has worn off ZDP.

It has not "worn off" on ebay at least, that is for sure. Blues are still snapped up, (2 sold this week for $90 & 105) and I haven't seen any ZDP bladed spydie sell for less than $60.

As far as the time and labor waste involved in changing colors, that would seem to be a minimal cost--just wait until you had to reload the colors anyway.

I remember the 1st time I saw a blue handled delica, it was around 96 or 97 I think. I only owned 1 Spydie at the time, a black delica. I instantly fell in love with the blue one. Since then, I have always preferred the colored ones. I wonder if others do as well...I smell a poll coming on... :)

I'd disagree with you on that part. Even if there's no nylon coming out of the tubes, there would still be some of it inside the machinery, thus just putting another colour in there would result in a rather dirty colour, thus wasting possibly quite a lot of the nylon. From what I know of industrial machinery, it won't just be a "flush water through for 10 minutes" procedure either.

Pity, it would be nice though. Oh well, there's still coloured G-10, as The Deacon said.

an improved Dragonfly( I'll settle for VG10, unlinered FRN, wire clip, no Boye dent and a fully serrated blade) would be very nice

I agree :)

A fully SE UKPK would be my choice, tough. Preferably in Dodo-blue G10. :D

Great idea! FRN nasty brown waved delica! :p I could just see it now, it'd become a real collector's item, the rare forum poo colored FRN waved delica, taking fugly to new heights.

that's a good thought......but instead of serrated just make mine a new G-10 color like blue or burgundy...

I'd love to see a ZDP-189 Dragonfly of any handle persuasion.

Does the UK allow serrations? Or would that make it a prohibited blade?

And TH, they make more than one color NOW, so there is apparently a way to switch colors and still keep it profitable! :)

That's actually a good point! Hmm... does anyone in the industry know whether there's only one machine that does all of them, or whether they have separate machines (hopes for latter)?

I love it and I would buy two. But The Deacon explained rules: 1200 pieces min for a batch size and the biggest batch for “Forum knife” was only 150. :( :( :(
Hopefully one day Persian will be resurrected as a sprint run or full flat grind Persian II (cocobolo or iron wood handle). :) :) :)
For now I would take Dragonfly, pink Delica. Green or blue PE UKPK would be nice.

I guess I'm still hoping that the forum knife will be something new and different, just like the lava and adventura were different. Maybe it'll be something I didn't even know I wanted until I see it. :D

I hear the crickets chirping...

Back on the ground, my preferences would be for a Cricket with etching, preferably like the pattern on the SpyderTribe T-shirt?

Pity though, a Cricket with Damasteel would have been nice.

Just bringing this back up for more participation.

I also wanted to say that while it is nice to have a forum knife that I do not expect it every year.

Thanks to Sal and Kristi and everyone at Spyderco for doing the forum knives in the past.

If one were done this year it would be the first year that I could get in on it due to funds and a few other reasons. I've not had a forum knife in the past but I have wanted one. :)

**** I have no idea if this has been mentioned yet but perhaps one of the "Urbans" with an exclusive handle material as the Urbans much like the Kopa will be made available in a wide range of handle materials?

I'm wondering why there wasn't a Forum Knife offered in 2004.
Was it because there were two different models offered in 2003?
