Smoked with Ivory
OK, Incredible, let me substitute some colors in Photoshop here... is this what you were thinking?

Thank you for the complement, but full flat grind C83 Persian is Deacon's idea. I just love this knife. Did you see Paul's full flat ground damascus C83 Persian?Bolstermanic wrote:Methinks BH49 must be my separated-at-birth twin. I always find myself agreeing with him. Yes, ivory would be fantastic. As would a flat grind Persian. Whatever BH49's ordering, I want one of those, too.

Bolstermanic, you did a good job with photoshop. I even cannot tell which one I like more. I would be forced to buy both.

BH On Target!
BH, you are on target once again, because I also want one of whatever Deacon's having. While I fervently admired Deacon's recent Persian regrind, I had NOT see the Persian concept thread you mention here, and had to go take a cold shower after seeing it. Maybe we could ask Deacon to do a decent concept rendering of an ivory Caly3, instead of my low-budget scan-then-colorswap method.
For yucks, here are all three of the bolster'd Caly designs I was playing with...until STR explained to me why the current Caly3 would be way difficult to bolsterize. So the project went into the deep freeze. I hope Spyderco does produce a bolster'd version!

Would white/ivory micarta stain or get scummy looking very easily? I've never had a knife with any so I'm kind of curious. If you could keep it clean and sharp looking, I'd be all over some of the designs in this thread. :D

I don't think so but I love dirty looking knives. If ivory micarta gets dirty and scummy looking, I would love that on a knife! Adds character!trout #2 wrote:Would white/ivory micarta stain or get scummy looking very easily? I've never had a knife with any so I'm kind of curious. I totally agree here. I would love a micarta caly jr. Too bad I missed out on the original run. One of my favorite designs with one of my favorite materials. Would make an excellent gent's knife.David Lowry wrote:I would much rather have a Micarta Calypso Jr. back in production. :)
I like the Calypso Jr. better than the Caly 3.

Somehow I like it better too.
I also like the idea of adding bolsters.
They provide strength where it counts, in the pivot area.
And you can do wonders with them to the visual balance between blade and handle.
Nicklesilver and white paper is what I like.

I am not very familiar with the Hitachi steels. I just did a quick Google search and they sound great, but probably expensive.Padawan wrote:How about Hitachi blue or white steel? The beige Micarta / Hitachi blue steel combo was a Sprint I proposed not too long ago. I think it'd be a nice change of pace.
Would be a nice combo, if it was not cost prohibitive.

Best I could do in PS. I suck at it and couldn't get quite what I was after.

Yeah, that looks really good, Daryn. I like it. You did a great job on the polished bolster--easy to visualize. A very "up town" knife. STR told me the knife is difficult to mod b/c the pins are so close to the edges--apparently you need a certain am't of clearance to rework a knife like this.

*fires up PS* (could take a minute. old computer)
Edited: sounded kinda wrong.
