Anyone use clips?
Anyone use clips?
Being new to Spyderco knives, I've tried using the pocket clips but still feel a little insecure (about losing it) rather than just leaving it loose deeper in my pocket. How many people routinely use the clips? How do you use it? Does anyone remove the clips?

I usually EDC a D'Allara Rescue, ATR or Native clipped to right front pocket and since November or December I've been EDCing a Rench clipped in my left back pocket. Learned the Rench in the back pocket thing from Doug at SFO, thanks Doug!!

i typically remove the clips, but also i usually add a fob/lanyard for easy access from the pocket.

I prefer clipped carry, because I tend to carry random junk in my pockets, and I don't like to have to dig around in my pockets for my knife.
I've never(knock on wood) lost one of my knives out of my pocket. But I have lost one in the laundry basket

in my years of spydercarry, i've only ever lost one clip... and i don't think you could replicate the circumstances very easily. i was jammed like an animal onto a bus in africa, sitting five to a seat (with two people squeezed in the aisle between seats), with drygoods stacked everywhere, and barely room enough to breathe. i had to literally climb/crawl over junk and people to get on and off the bus... somewhere in the process of doing this, the clip of my pacific salt caught on something, and was yanked off, i guess...
Love clips, couldn't EDC without them. Tried to EDC non-clipped knives and I never liked the pocket slap & the bulge against the leg. (I know what you perverts are thinking. Very funny.) Clipped, you don't even know it's there till you need it. Nothing lost yet. The Spyderco clips are pretty grippy. Buy a model with G-10 scales and you'll build arm muskles like Popeye just pulling on the knife to get it loose and out of your pocket.

The all-stainless steel clipits can attempt to jump ship more easily than the others when I sit on a low couch or a theater seat. I just developed the habit of feeling pockets when getting up from such places: a quick self pat down to ensure I still have all the sharp tools, flashlight, wallet, keys, phone...away we go. Maybe a bit Type A behavior but I've carried clipits since the late 80's and lost one to theft and misplaced a few, but not while wearing them.

Follow the mushin, but pay it no heed.

I removed the clip, inadvertantly, from my 2nd FRN clip Endura. Filed the stump down and carried it in my save-a-dive kit after that until I got called Rambo when it slipped from my hand as I flicked it open and stuck in the transom of a Cozumel dive boat. Put it back in me pocket and lost it coming back ashore.
I trust the steel clips used nowadays. Best clip is on the Pro-Grip and the Provenator. Grippy little suckers, they are. The Snap-it clip works well when youre angling or climbing also. Most akward for me is the Gunting's high positioning - but that's for a reason and the clip is incredibly strong and the deep index well retains the G pretty securely. I think the closer the curve of the clip to the tip of the handle; the better and deeper the carry.
Bent the trusty G10 Rookie's clip quite a few times and have never lost her. Replaced it once and bead blasted it for looks on both sides. Seemed to give it a slightly more grippy feel. Also appreciate the SS liners more due to stripping the clip's screw holes a bit on FRN, G10, or Micarta handles w/o liners - one of the main reasons Spyderco changed the Rookie from linerless to an SS liner.
Spydercos are the original "Clippit" knives and changed the industry for this innovation. They have refined their idea and clips are by far the easiest way to carry. I trust 'em implicitly.

I use the clips almost excluisvely. As far as the knife getting lost by falling out of my pocket, I have found that as along as the closed knife is shorter overall than the pocket is deep, this shouldnt be an issue, unlees you are doing some serious bending. Now, when I wear a suite, the pockets are not as deep as my wranglers, so I take to clipping the knife in my sock. A delica 3 is not heavy enough to come unlodged when clipped into a snug sock, so it rides there no prob.
Good luck and welcome!

I always use the clip, unless I don't want the knife to be visible. Then it just goes loose in my pocket, although it's not preferred.
I also do the same as zen every once in a while, or also when getting up from sitting down. I thought I was the only one who did so!
