Sunday Calypso Sr. Show

#1

Post by fellyjr »

These are two more examples of knives that when I first saw them I was not immediately impressed, but over time, I have grown to be quite fond of the lustrous linen micarta and silky VG-10 goodness. These have been hotter than a popcorn fart lately and now I can finally see why. Sometimes it takes a while for certain knives to grow on you and then all of the sudden it's like BAM!! Then you gotta have it! Here are some pic's for your viewing pleasure.

Elegance and lightweight of the C54BM Calypso is a class of one's own!

And you have all variants, Felly. Good job - thanks! :)

Oh, those are beautiful. Mine should be coming in the mail soon. I got one of the last ones from Armor of New Hampshire. What a beautiful knife! :D

Wrong timing for hidden classic

The C-54 big Calypso truly was a Super Spyder model that literally fell through the cracks. Being it was in the extensive line up of Spyders in what I've always called "The GOLDEN ERA OF SPYDERS" ( 1998 to 2003).

It truly had the unfortunate dilema of being completely overshadowed by some great models of that time. Otherwise it would have easily had the popularity of the Lil T, Jess Horn models, C-42 Viele, The LUM models and at least a dozen more. Not to mention the ever so popular Terzoula models as well.

The C-54 and C-60 Ayoob models in my book are the best comeback candidates period. I truly think with a few up to date modifications of both models that they would scream on the sales charts in this current environment.

The poor ol JD Smith model sort of suffered that same fate but not to the degree that the big Calypso did. One huge hint to make you all realize that I am on to something>> Just look at the explosive popularity of the Calypso Junior models. I rest my case for now. ;)

It would be just my luck for the large Caly to make a sprint run comeback and not have any cash for one. :(

...

VERY nice pics Felly.....I want to thank u again for that link to the Ayoob store in NH where I finally (after searching 2 yrs) found a "reasonably priced" Calypso.... ;) I like your photos that show the "grain" of that "silky" VG10 blade.... :)
...the deep Lustre of this particular micarta handle I like very much...same type that's on my micarta Aus8 Calypso Jr SE I scored from JFJ a while back.... :p
I believe your post on these Forums (with the link to the Ayoob store) have made them hotter than a Jalapeno air biscuit.... :D

JD -- wasn't there talk a year or two ago about a sprint run of ayoobs one day? wonder what the status of that project is?

jaislandboy -- ain't JFJ great?! ;) ah, i remember his inventory two or three years ago... those were some great times!

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I am starting to like more and more Spydies with teeth. I think it all started with the Ayoob. The Caly Sr. just looks plain sexy with teeth so I had to have her! :D

There isn’t any symbolism. The sea is the sea. The old man is an old man. The boy is a boy and the fish is a fish. The shark are all sharks no better and no worse. All the symbolism that people say is ****.
