I used to be into FPS myself (too bad it's soo little time for games) :(
I think I played (and finished) ;) all main FPS that were made, starting with Wolfenstein and Heretic, Duke Nukem and Terminator - Future Shock and Skynet, Half Life (and variants, like Opposing Force and Blue Shift), Sin and Avenging Angel (I'm not sure if this was the title, it was about a fallen angel that cames on Earth and he fights with regular weapons but during the gameplay he also develops holy powers, like haste, blood bath, brimstone aso.). Oh yes, and Quake(s), Unreal and his sequels, not to mention Unreal Tournament. Loved 2004, can't wait for the 2007. :D
But I was particualrily fond on the Thief series. Although not quite what some would call FPS, as it's based much more on sneaking rather than fighting, I highly reccommend it. It has a nice storyline and the shadows in Thief III are fantastic. :)
I am currently playing Command and Conquer - Renegade. It's quite old now, but I'm into RTS (Real Time Strategy) as well and this game allows you to play the now classic strategy game from a different perspective - as a commando who takes the action in his own very hands. ;)

I like the Rainbow Six titles. A bit of planning strategy and a lot of shooting...

I'm another that doesn't get too excited about the fantasy / alien creatures that are in some of the games. Stick to chasing around bad guys and terrorists and I'm set.

I havn't personally played 2142, but I know a lot of people that do. If you like the BF series, then you'll probably like 2142. The futuristic vehicles/weapons are what ppl keep saying is good.

Can you rent PC games?

I usually used my screenname 'Mr Blonde', but I was never in any squad. Just the odd hour of online gameplay here and there. Mostly BHD though.

I still play Goldeneye regularly, it is awesome.
Halo obviously has become a legend, excellent story.
I am EXTREMELY anxious to play FEAR and Resitance: Fall of Man. they both look amazing, but I am to poor for them right now.
But I have to say BLACK on the PS2 has the best gun set up and combat engines I have ever played. I am a huge fan of true gun accuracy from the game to real life, and they excelled at represeting all the guns. They screwed themselves over with no multiplayer though...it was still an incredible game, I have never played a game with a better real life gun set up. Rent it and beat it, you will not be disappointed.

Medal of Honor is (for me) the best game about WWII... especially multiplayer is highly playable.

Bonus: I can play this game on my old old old computer ;)

"Requiem - Avenging Angel", Alex......

as for me, i've been out the gaming-scene for years now. i guess i got tired of games, dunno.

my favorites were Wolfenstein 3D, Doom 1 and 2, Quake 1 (GLQuake, 3dfx-voodoo graphics ofcourse) and Quake 3

occasionally i still play Doom 2 when i'm really bored

nowadays, the only games i have retained real interest in are the Silent Hill series, survival psych-horror. truly the best games ever made

Dialex, you are correct in saying that the "Thief" series was good. It was something different and that was good. I should load that one up again someday.

F.E.A.R. and Resistance are favorites of mine, but I'm currently playing Day of Defeat (HL2 mod) and always have :D

Might I add that Deux Ex was THE best FPS I've ever played!

Let me add another one I just finished and enjoyed a lot:

Max Payne 2: The fall of Max Payne

Must be one of the best story line I've played.

Very Noir detective, with a 50'S twist...

I am going to play it again in the near future...

Simon

BTW: stopped Dark Messiah... There is no spirit in it. Just a HL2 engine prouesse.

What I have not seen is the Timesplitters series. The first one was a launch title for the Playstation 2. Games were fast on it and it had tons of different games to play on it.

Wasn't that an xbox label too? I think I played that one time and it was pretty good.

yeah, snuffaluff, the sequels were on the xbox I believe. What I really liked about it was that I could play it with my son who was 5 at the time. Even though it was a FPS, it was not too bloody for him.
