The one Boker put out really hurt, darn thing had to be a RH liner lock. Have a LH One-Eye-Jack on order from A. T. Barr, in Devin Thomas raindrop stainless damascus, that will go into my pocket the day it arrives. Still would like to find someone able to heavily customize a Stretch for me - Damasteel blade, dent-free lockbar, bolster & scales handles, and the original lockspring an backspacer.
I don't know Deac., this thread is carrying more interest than me and you talking back and forth like last year. I'm digging my heals in, maybe drink some raw eggs, punch some frozen cow shanks, do a bit of shadowboxing while I run...got to not give up hope. :D

Jurphaas wrote:Hi Guys - Be prepared for a dissapointment  . I've been pestering Sal for years about Damascus and the only answer I got was "does it cut any better?"
Sal will probably explain to you that Spyderco is all about High Tech preformance in cutting. As long there is no proof in Sal's mind about better performance as the high speed steels we use, there will be no damascus bladed Spyderco. Sal is in no way prepared to settle for "eye candy".

Jurphaas. :)
Hi Jur,
I'd ask Sal if putting apple coral handles makes the knife cut better...
So I'd say yes, make a Persian (full size) with Damascus blade, Damascus bolsters like at the anniversary Delica (shouldn't be such a tough job, since it's the same Ed that made those too), and stag handles. Dentless lock, of course. Also titanium liners and sculpted (anodized titanium) backspacer.
As for the clip, I'd put a very discrete clip fixed with a screw at the butt of the knife (like there is at certain pens).

This whole "Sal only adds materials for performance" is a myth. The Kopa series, to a lesser extent the Kiwi series, that little fancy smancy Delica all point to broader minded Sal.

Well in fact, Spyderco has already "done" damascus, in the form of the Zowada Worker. If the darn thing was PE, there'd have been one less intact Evo set in the world for a couple years now. :D In a way, that highlights the problem. A knife made with quality damascus will be expensive, no way around that, and for almost all of us, the more money a knife costs, the less willing we are to compromise on "little details" like blade length, lock type, edge type, blade pattern, handle construction and materials, etc.

Using the damsteel Kopa as an example, I'd buy one if it had a clip, just to keep my Kopa collection complete, perhaps even a second to carry as a money clip. But, if it had no clip I'd buy a few, one for the collection, one to carry "stock", and several to have Bill Wirtel and his crew molest for me. :D So, in that regard, I'd be less picky about scale material than some might be.

Yeah Paul! I'm all about a clipless Kopa....! the clip hides that "other" gorgeous inlay....so like on my Cocobolo Kopa.....the clipside inlay can't get the attention it deserves....i.e. I can't fondle / caress/ flitzwax that clipside inlay (like I do to the clipless side... ;) ) so I feel somewhat cheated! :p :D

I can still imagine an FRN damascus Delica/Endura(including WAVE series).

It would be quite the collector's item ;)

How about a Damasteel Lava?

I could get my brain around that idea...anybody good enough with Photoshop to tweak a picture of one...what does DAYWALKER think?

Yummy. I think it would be even sweeter with polished bolsters and some nice wood, like ironwood :D

I think, Zen's idea about Kopa is the best. Persian is also very good, but I prefer clipless.

Heck could even have Kopa with damasteel blade and without the scale to keep costs down. Although I wonder if people would buy an unfinished knife.

I really prefer your original idea with desert ironwood.

Desert ironwood, with or without the clip, it makes no difference...damasteel or other damascus too.
