New Dodo

So I just received my Black SE dodo. This knife packs a lot of punch in a small package. Opening and closing is butter smooth. I definitely like the ball bearing locking system. It does take a bit of time to get used to though. The ergos are amazing, and there are so many ways to comfortable hold the knife open and closed. Seems like it could make a good SD knife. Knife seems slightly duller than most Spyders I've gotten, but I'm sure that will fix right up on the sharpmaker. If you don't have a dodo yet, get one. It truly is an amazing little bird.

I agree with everything you said. It is an amazing knife, and I think it definately desereves a second run or a similar re-design. The crazy thing is that mine is also black SE :D

I really have to get one of these. Does anyone know where there is a Black plain edged one?

I haven't seen PE ones. I know of a place that should still have several SE ones in stock.

Is it true? Doesn't the root of the blade touch the G10 slab when openning and closing?

The blade touches the G-10 on my dodo too, but there is (or shoud be) washers in there, the thin brown transparent nylon ones.

But you gotta love the dodo!

Golem: the blade does seem to touch the G-10, but the knife takes literally no effort to open. There must be washers in there, because there is very little friction. There aren't many blades this small that I can flick open in a forward grip effortlessly.

Yeah it is true; partly design, partly the fit/finish, and partly that new fangled ball lock. Speaking of which, the ball lock is a bit weird to get used to when you first open it. After years and years of hearing a lock "snick", "click", or "clack" open, it is a bit disconcerting to hear almost nothing when opening a ball lock. Makes you think it isn't working properly, but it is. ;)
Follow the mushin, but pay it no heed.

Not on mine. The Finger coil rests against the underside of the ball lock assembly.

I emailed the guy and he said it is serrated.
It looks like a PE in the pic but I wasn't quite sure.

The ball lock does take some getting used to. I have medium sized hands and it took several openings/closings to be able to release the lock with just my thumb instead of my thumb and middle finger. Well the weather here in Portland is supposed to be nice this weekend: partly cloudy and only like 39 degrees. I may just have to go out and take some shots.

I took apart my dodo and lubed the pivot area, and now its butter smooth :D

I got small hands, so although I cannot fully appreciate the handle ergo, my fingers fit the ball lock quite well. :D It's a great design IMO.

BTW, I still think the swick is a better SD blade than the dodo.

I definitely like the swick as well. I'm actually carrying both the swick and the dodo right now...with a E4 wave thrown in the mix as well. Now just to get a better sheath for the swick so I can carry it SOB.
