Matriarch questions:

1> What does it look like closed? Think it should look much like the harpy/merlin with that curved blade.

2> tip up or down?

Civ point:

CF/PLAIN EDGE... we have 'em up here at Cutting Edge... anyone wants one it is a good time to order!

I'm considering buying a matriarch after a recent attack on me. Seriously think he's going to try again, so I may as well be ready.

The Matriarch is a much larger knife than the Harpy, both open and closed, butt is about the same weight as the G10 Harpy I have.

Note the tag attached to the Matriarch. You would have a hard time convincing anyone that you were carrying it as a tool. Be sure you try all other means to avoid a situation where you would need to use it for its intended purpose. You would no doubt be called on to justify yourself by law enforcement and probably the courts.

I hope it doesn't come to that for you.

VampyreWolf

I recently bought a FRN Matriarch and it is one intimidating looking knife!

With regards to size, the handle is identical (as far as I can tell) to the FRN Endura so that should give you a good comparison. It is "tip up" carry.

Hope this helps!

thx for the info/pics.

I had seen the matriarch in the case before, but hadn't had a chance to handle one yet.

This guy has tried 2 times before, and now he's back at school(even though he's SUPPOSED to be expelled).

I have no doubt that if it comes to it, I would injure him severly. I have the knowledge of points to strike(and not to strike).
I'm hoping it never comes to usage of it's intended purpose, but at least it would be there.

Better to be tried by 12, than carried by 6... and have a good lawyer(like I do already).

Well, well. So it's happening again VampyreWolf? Being bothered at school again are you?

Aren't you afraid now that they'll take your expensive Matriarch away after you've done what you've wanted to do to him? I would.

I agree with you Wolf, "better to be judged by twelve. . ." but thouse knives do make me a little nervous. It might look like you wanted him to attack you knowing you could easily do quite alot of damage.

Hannibal's comment might make to light of the situation. More than your knife could get taken away.

I hope nothing happens.

I don't know any of the circumstances surrounding your problem. But shouldn't you be talking to a teacher or law enforcement person. Has the person threatened you with a weapon of some kind or is simply a schoolyard bully? Understand if you use your knife to defend against an unarmed attacker you run an extreme risk of being the one takes the brunt of the law. If you've never cut anyone except yourself, realize it will affect you for the rest of your life, it isn't fun, it isn't pretty, it's messy and it's scary. Taking your problem to some one in a position of authority who maybe able to help isn't being a sell out or a punk. It just might keep you from ruining your life. Seems like if you've had a problem with this person before then you've had time to think about things, this could be construed as pre-meditation, be careful brother, and good luck.

The knives you mentioned are knives designed and originally sold to law enforcement folks in special situations.

These are very serious knives with a very serious purpose.

I'm very concerned for your safety, but the path you are taking may have far more serious consequences than receiving a beating.

You could well be in over your head. Law enforcement will likely view your potentially lethal approach as excessive. The only way, for you, to get through a major slashing (on your part) would be to articualate why you felt your life was threatened. Even than, you may still have criminal and civil consequences.

Another approach would be to involve your parents, school administrators and police now and have them on your side. If your parents complain and you are later injured, you may have civil remedies to make you whole.

Please reconsider your planned actions.

Yes. The Matriarch is for self-defence and that's exactly what he will be using it for. There's absolutely no reason why they would take it away from him. I'd say... But they will, yes, indeed, VampyreWolf.

Just, show him the knife next time he tries something like that on you again, make a fast cut in his clothes or something, and then put it away for a while. I did the same thing with my Merlin.

They weren't impressed when they saw the Merlin because it was rather small, but when they saw how sharp it was, they understood their opinel was worthless. They weren't the types to start a knife fight, rather just taunt, they wouldn't strike. Would you VampyreWolf? Would that person do it, which is bugging you right now?

I'd say consider who he is and what he is, not what he looks like. Would he really stab you? It's hard to imagine for me, I live in a peacefull neighborhood and we don't get stab incidents in Holland that much. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> Of course we're very small.

The day of the last attack on me, I went to the police and filed an assualt charge, and he was expelled from school by the admin.

However, as it was 2 weeks ago, the school has let him back in! We have called the cops to do something about it ad they haven't replied to us yet(4 days later)...

The law and school are doing nothing for the victim, only to benefit the attacker!?!(his father is a cop too).

BE CAREFUL ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE DOING. YOU ARE CONTEMPLATING USING DEADLY FORCE. THAT IS PREMEDITATION. IF YOU KILL THIS INDIVIDUAL EVEN THOUGH IT IS AN ACCIDENT, THAN IT IS CONSIDERED VOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER. YOUR SITUATION SUCKS, I'M SORRY FOR THAT. IF HIS FATHER IS USING HIS INFLUENCE AS A COP, THEN HE IS AN EMBARRASSMENT TO ALL MEMBERS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT. YOU SAID YOU HAVE A GOOD LAWYER, WHY ISN'T HE GETTING YOU OUT OF THIS JAM, SHOULDN'T HE BE PRESSING CIVIAL SUITS AGAINST THE SCHOOL, POLICE DEPT, THE KID AND HIS FATHER? PLEASE CONSIDER THE LEGAL RAMIFICATIONS FOR WHAT CAN HAPPEN. I HATE ARRESTING "REPEAT VICTIMS" THAT TAKE VIGILANTE JUSTICE UPON THEMSELVES. IT SUCKS BECAUSE MANY TIMES THEY END UP IN JAIL FACING MUCH WORSE WITHOUT ANY WEAPONS, MEANING NO SPYDERCO'S TO SAVE YOUR *SS. SORRY.

Seems you are getting good advice.
If you do have to defend yourself I would think things would go alot better for you if you used a smaller sheeple friendly knife like your cricket.you know the points to hit and not to hit so it should be plenty effictive. They would have a hard time saying that you were carrying that knife as a weapon whereas the civillan has no other purpose-good luck.
