Taurus 415

Just picked up a Taurus 415 SSC2 today in .41 mag.
I was looking for something smaller to carry in the summer,found out after I got home with it that is isn't much smaller than my 1911.
I think I will trade it for a small ultra lite .38.
Anyway if I do I think it will be another Taurus,have any of you had any dealings with Taurus,are they close to as good a Smith .38s.

Taurus Knocks off Smith all the time...a bit cheaper in price but not made as well...but they have gotten better in the last couple of years...I bought a Taurus Titanium Finish in 357 mag...the finish rubbed right off after a couple of draws from the holster...Taurus took the gun back from me, returned my money and I bought a Smith with the money....Doc :D

Thanks,I figured Smith where better but a much bigger price too.
I could have traded this one for a Ti .38 Taurus today but I heard some guys talking about Smith having trouble with the Ti splitting open and that stop me from trading for a Ti model in anything.

I've never owned one, but my friend bought the Taurus Titanium .357 when it first came out. After one trip to the range, he noticed SEVERE erosion on the top strap. Taurus replaced it with one that did the exact same thing.

I'd go with a S&W or a Ruger SP101. :cool:

J Smith, my wife has had the Taurus in this picture for at least a couple of years now. It has not had a huge amount of rounds through it, but it has been a nice gun. It is very light and I thought it may have a pretty good kick to it, even for just a .38 Special. It is ported though and it really kicks very little. It is a fun gun to shoot. It is the ultra light model. I am including a picture of the gun along with the concealment purse I gave my wife for Christmas. We just went a couple of days ago and applied for her concealed weapons permit also.

Well this is disappointing to hear, Taurus is always bragging about their state of the art manufacturing plant. Oh well, I'll stick to Ruger for my revolvers. SP101 .357 fits in a back jeans pocket quite easily.

Taurus..... I had a 44spl 5shot snubbie shrouded hammer similar to the model 85. It was my back up on a tactical training day while on the tac team at my former agency. Time came for me to transition to my backup and I did, I drew and squeezed the trigger and the darn thing literally blew up on me. The cylinder broke and dislodged and the barrel warped. Thank God it happened in training and not while on a call out! I took the gun as is back to the dealer I purchased it from and they sent it back to Taurus and I got my money back. Save the money and get a Smith or a Ruger. With that being said. I do still own a Taurus M85 that I have had for years now, but it is carried more than shot. As long as I am careful it works fine. Get the Smith or Ruger. You will not have to worry about these discrepencies! Take care and God Bless!

How come we like the same knives and guns? We must be karmicaly connected....we certainly don't have the same taste as far as slippers go :p But when it comes to Rugers and Ronins I'm right there with you buddy!!! Maybe it has something to do with the letter "R" ...I'm gonna have to look into getting some "R"abbit Slippers pronto!>>>>>>Doc :D

:spyder: I'm on my second taurus k-frame knock-off (my second ex has my first) first in .357 and now in .44 special. I've had no complaint about either. my .44 is my bedside gun although I dread how loud it would be if I touched it off indoors :o I find them very reliable and accurate. :spyder:

Tactical rabbit slippers is the only way to defend against the cold. :cool:

If you look hard enough, you can probably find some mutuality amongst any two people.

You like spears, I like Glocks....oops nope.

You like throwing knives, I like staffs...oops nope.

You like 45-70, I like .308...oops nope.

You do have excellent taste in knives however... :D

A buddy of mine (big gun nut) back in Florida had a Taurus revolver or two....but he steered me straight to Ruger for my 1st revolver....yeah I like the "rugged" build quality of Ruger revolvers.....beefy, reliable, almost "overbuilt"!.... :cool:

Well just traded it for a Keltec P3AT with OD frame and blued slide.
Hope they are as good as I have heard.

I hope you like your P3AT as well as I do mine J Smith :) !! I love mine!!. I have about 150 flawless rounds through it so far. If you are looking for a holster for it, I would offer a couple of suggestions.
The P3 is really a pocket gun, but I generally prefer to carry IWB. The first picture here is a pocket holster from Ron Graham called the K-Rat. It can be found on this page.

I cannot say enough good things about this holster!! I like it a lot. Kevin also makes pocket holsters that are very nice. You have to wait a bit to get your holster from K&D Holsters, BUT, it is worth the wait. Kevin will work with you and make you anything that you want. He is a great guy to deal with!!

Thanks ront.I haven't fired my yet but I did break it down and clean it.Keltec uses some kind of nasty dirty looking grease as a lube.I Militeced it and the action is much better.

It is a fun little gun to shoot. For SD rounds, I am currently using Speer GD. I am trying to get a hold of some of the CorBon DPX rounds. They are supposed to be very good also. For practice, just the Winchester White Box.
