Samo has a great idea

Post by chinook »

Not that his aren't always good, butt I think buying a knife for the emergency personnel and troops involved directly in slicing away this terrorism threat is a superb idea.

With the negative press on knives and "boxcutters" we could put forward the positive point that knives are tools that these men and women can and do use everyday in saving lives and performing their missions.

It could be the Forum Special for this year. I would suggest theirs have a simple inscription, maybe just the date 09-11-2001, butt different from the ones available to us in some way.

I really agree. I was originally pushing for a calypso jr ltwt, but I think a rescue with white handles, or some sort of patriotic color scheme. It should have some sort of inscription on it like the date and something to the effect of the nation uniting in the face of a great loss.

As much as I hate the idea of spending money on a knife I don't get to play with. I would do this in a heart beat. and I'm thinking personally how about a slightly smaller millitary partially serrated. definately with a 9/11 inscription. how about with a spyder on the handle like your new vesuivus but a red white and blue spider.
seriously guys I'll buy one.

My vote goes for a serrated Military Jr and I'll take two.

thanks for the kind words fellas. I think this would be your greatest contribution to your country and her heroes... Since its a sincere contribution, I moot for a knife which is affordable and practical with a very special treatment -- coloured FRN -- Let's say, Blue handles, white bug and red clip... or something low viz like the desert tan or OD FRN with the word : "Remember 9-11-01 as an inscription on the blade... If you agree to sponsor a serviceman, the pricing should be at a non-profit rate of : US$100 with a small proceed to the RED CROSS.. Remember, this is not AMERICA's WAR anymore, its HUMANITY against TERRORISM...

Spyderco sent 200 orange Rescue jrs to the fire fighters at "Ground Zero". They were engraved "In memory of America's finest" 9-11-01.

Samo, your concept is interesting. details?

Good move Sal.

If you do go with Samo's idea of sponsoring a knife, count me in.

Good Show Sal!

What I had in mind : is a piece for every man.. FRN-model, preferbly Endura with an-all White handle with blued clip and a red bug inlay... OD or Desert Tan handles if the cost to produce the white ones were too high. priced between US$90-$100, limited to 500 pcs. From the MSRP, 30% will go the the RED CROSS and WTC aid.. Hope this helps...

I would be interrested in one.
Something like this would be only right for a forum knife this year.

If you do go with OD how about a black clip a red white and blue striped bug inlay and W.T.C. 09-11-2001 on the blade.
If service men will be useing any of them the OD or desert tan would be the only way to go.they might not be allowed to carry or want to carry a real flashy one into combat.

Sal

You guys have already sent the 200 knives to the rescuse workers? Got any coverage by the press on that move? Any idea whether your rivals have done the same? because it sounds a good story to me and I would love to hear more info on that. I know our paper here in Hong Kong is a bit far away from the States but I am sure you don't mind us to have a report on that.

I can be contacted at ambroseleung@scmp.com

Thanks sal

Now that's BIG generousity without question. I bet the orange rescues had raised the spirits of the EMTs and put to good use by the workers on-site.. Its a priceless contribution from the knife people.. And for the great deed, a BIG and heartfelt THANKS from this part of the world to Poppa Spyder and the Spydercrew!

I have noticed that the scales for frn knives are in two parts. What if there was one blue scale and one red scale with a white clip and an inscription on the blade. This might help keep the cost of production done so that as much as possible could be donated to charity.

I still like this idea better than the vesuvius. One red scale, one blues scale and a white clip. The blade should be engraved "9/11/01 In memory of those who gave their lives in the hope of saving the innocent victims."

Yeah, this is what I was trying to ask about in my "Patriotic Knife?" thread! I didn't know that there was already a thread about it.
I would definately want a Red, White, and Blue knife that would help raise money for the disaster.
