Best Spydie Folder for Kitchen
Best Spydie Folder for Kitchen
I have been looking around the forum to see which folders you all prefer for kitchen duty. I know Deacon loves his Stretch for kitchen tasks, but I would like some other opinions. I don't use mine much (yet) for food prep, but I intend to do so with some guidance. My Chinook III is in the mail, so I think I may start with that one. Thanks.

I used a "lil" manix to prepare an entire meal for my family and it worked very well. Although the blade was a bit short for all the tasks, it worked well. I would recomend a military for kitchen work, long blade, good belly for slicing and enough blade length to cut through just about anything.

I have found that the C-17 Catcherman folding fillet knife to be a jewell in the kitchen. It is so versatile and it's thin/streamlined blade geometry makes it ideal for for intricate cutting.
Now I must admit I do like this other brother's suggestion of the C-36 Military model as well. I truly think it would have some possibilities.
I know this is a "FOLDER QUESTION" but I can't help but tell you that the Fixed Blade Temperance model is awesome in the kitchen. Good Luck >>> JD :spyder: O

Hmmmh, another idea:
I don't own a Frank Centofante 4, but from a passaround from another forums I had some own experience and if I can trust my record you could give the Centofante a try. The 2mm Wharncliff blade worked fine in my kitchen.
Can only speak for my person: I prefer fixed kitchen knives for kitchen tasks.

I recently got a Pacific Salt PE mainly for kitchen/food prep use. The combination of FRN and H1 means easy cleaning, easy sharpening, and no need to worry about rust :)

I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.
One more vote for the Mili PE. It is just perfect...

Centofante IV
Absolutely. I only use mine in the kitchen when I'm on holiday but it is excellent in the role. The 2mm blade makes it perfect for paring despite the hollow grind.Peter1960 wrote:

I like the C IV so much I'm having a hard time replacing it with my Caly 3 for EDC.

I prefer flat ground in the kitchen, and will take 3mm over 4mm. My favorite is the Stretch and my "second choice" would be the R2. Have never used either there, but imagine both the C54 Calypso and flat ground G-10 Police would be excellent in the kitchen too, since they'd have even more length.

In order of efficiancy:
1) Military PE - for all of the previously mentioned reasons.
2) Delica I thru III PE - little belly, good boning point (point on D4
)
3) Massad Ayoob PE- don't own a catcherman, but this is at least as good if not better. It is a terror on large primal cuts of beef or pork. IMHO
