denn wrote:i'm going to be honest here with some personal insights, because i've read the replies, and i think they're mostly spot on.

i think it's because i am indeed somewhat rude and crude, flaming and inconsiderate ergularly........granted, that's me. i'm quite the guy who immediately speaks his mind, whether that's offensive or counterproductive or not, i can't help it. often i also have a totally different viewpoint on things or a completely different taste in knife-styles...]

denn, keep in mind that most people manage to have disagreements without ending up getting dogpiled. And it's not just a matter of whether you're brave enough to speak your mind ... it's whether you have the simple social skills to do it without being unreasonably insulting. Zac has nearly opposite opinions from me, and while we've argued our points occasionally, it's never ended up like that. Just something to think about, "I'm brave enough to speak my mind" is not a justification for being insulting and disrespectful.
- my griped acomments against Mike Janich were not be because he disagreed with my viewpoints, but rather because he attacked me personally by insinuating i was an arguing troll/idiot who liked to argue. i DON'T. i actually have the same feeling as Janich about idiots in general. if it doesn't come across, i end the conversation. it's usually best to 'agree' with an idiot or ignore him/her, and forget about it, are my sentiments to.

- the mallninja ninja calling WAS a 'fun' way of putting the common term to use. not insulting. i even added the roll-eyes smiley to indicate sarcasm/humor
I put these two together becuase they're part of the same problem. First, after you're insulting the entire thread, you can't get butt-hurt when someone gives it back. No way would you have gotten that response (from anyone, including MJ) if you hadn't been insulting ... once you cross the line, no whining when you get it back, in my opinion. BTW, the roll-eyes smiley does not indicate humor, it means your rolling your eyes, and the connotation is that you're rolling your eyes at the people you're responding to. Very consistent with the rest of the disrespect-fest. The roll-eyes makes it worse, not better.
- my comments in the thread were meant to prevent some of you guys ending up in jail, or worse, by putting the practical aspects in the spotlight
Alas, most of your arguments were tilting at strawmen (that is, addressing things that were never stated), and others were the hallmark of mall ninjas and UNrealistic UNpractical thinking (e.g., you were the first to bring up the "you will get cut" argument, and knife-on-knife is so rare in real life that it's the hallmark of people not thinking realistically IMO). In short, your arguments seemed to me to be addressing points that were only made in your own mind (you read things into people's arguments that weren't there) plus your own bad arguments. This, of course, is gets us way off track from the topic at hand, as to whether you're a troll, but at least gives you some insight into the frustration.

I would have voted "hard to tell". I looked at your previous posts, and none of them seemed to be the same disaster as the locked SD post. Sometimes someone just makes a bad post and then has trouble changing course due to a heated response (it's happened to me), and I guessed that is what happened. On the other hand, these kinds of "hey, notice ME, what do you think of ME" threads are often suspicious.

I had not reviewed the evidence and generally do not make enemies in less than personally attacked. I am reminded of a Buddhist monk I must have heard of at some point. It was slyly asked, if you like everybody how do you feel about your enemies. He replied my enemies teach me patience.in addition, there is an old Sicilian proverb that go something like to not seek vengeance on your enemies. Just sit by the river, and sooner or later, they "hopefully their bloated corpse." Will float by. I mean that in the nicest possible

Although you have not personally said anything to me that is offensive, I think the posts you make in addition to the threads you start about yourself make you a Troll desperately craving attention. I voted yes because I think that you are one and now you have been called on it by many forumites and the giveaway and apologies are an ill attempt to redeem yourself.

Nah, your post per day count is way too low to be a real troll. I generally EXPECT people to lose their temper in self defense related threads, it is a very touchy subject.

Most of your posts are at least related to the subject at hand instead of being one line attempts to disrupt the thread.

I myself have a bad habit of using the smileys as facial expressions, which is sometimes misinterpreted. Heck, sometimes my facial expressions are misinterpreted in person. :D

I would encourage you to work on your blurting problem, though... ;)

you, sir, are simply a very unfriendly and unforgiving person. i made a mistake out of impulsive enthusiasm, got corrected by forumites, corrected and explained my statements and apoligized, and currently making up for it by organizing a goodwill-project and posting as much as possible to show i'm a serious forumite and besides, i like to help people out with insights, hints and tips and advice on purchases and tinkering.........; yet STILL, you choose to piss on me. that says more about you as a person than about me

enough with the defending myself, anyone else who keeps kicking me in the ground will be ingnored and considered by ME as a vicious troll

regards,

Nah, you're not a troll, you're just learning how things are around here. If you dig deep enough you'll find that several of our highly esteemed members had their beginnings with rather troll-like actions.

We have a lot of respect for Sal and his house here and try to take good care of it. :)

Truth hurts I guess. I see how this thread works, innocently ask every one's opinion of you and then jump the guy that is honest with his feelings. Pretty low.

The forum memory is short, the locked thread is probably to the dim mists of page three by now. Had you just dropped this nonsense, all but the insulted parties would have forgotten this whole affair by now. But you had to open two new threads on the matter to keep it in the public eye.

I hardly rate trying to buy friends with a knifebribe as a goodwill project, especially as you had initially set it up as a trade for something that you would deem worthy. Even had you set it up as a straight give away from the get-go, it is a pretty cheesy stunt.

Oh, and by the way, you seem to think people got all riled up about your opinions in that locked thread. They didn't. As it was pointed out to you, you made a bunch of straw man (and non sequitor) arguments. What pissed people off was your insulting professionals in their trade craft. Since you seem a little slow on the subject, I'll spell it out for you. Calling martial artists, who make their living by training others in defense, Mall Ninjas is a statement on your opinion of their skill and their livelihood.

Saying you are sorry because the thread was locked so that people can't put in their two cents is not an apology for the offense incurred. Heck some of the offended parties have even apologized for their reactions to your insult, yet you still stand proud in your over indulgent egotism. That says all it needs to about your character.

Since I stand in opposition to your inanity, I guess I will be branded your troll and put on your ignore list. Somehow, I think I can live with that. Maybe Mahkz and I can start a support group or something. <= Oh look, I've used the rolleyes smiley, that means this whole post is a joke right?
