I like cats, in fact I love 'em. They're delicious. Any good recipes out there?

i adore my cat with all my being. :D

here she is when i first got her, and a more recent pic. :)

edit --

the baby pic was taken in the rat-hole she was born in, before becoming completely spoiled in my house, now complete with at least three separate cat-beds, a towering perch by the window, and more toys than i can count. she is the most spoiled baby in the world. she demands to be massaged and held and rubbed at all hours of the day and night. i've never seen such an affectionate and needy cat! but i do love her so.

Okay, I racked my alleged brain and remembered the breed name of my girlfriend's old cat! They call that particular cross a Tonkiana. I even managed to scrounge up one old digital photo taken several years ago which has been lost in the hard drives for about five years. This is Duke, 1988 - 2006. R.I.P.

I'm rarely home enough to be able to take care of any animal, but my girlfriend and her mother have three cats. One of which has taken a particular liking to me, and runs to the door every time I come over. Her name is Marie.

She's like a second girlfriend, she get's mad when any of the other cats come near me, can be very moody, and is very high maintenance ;)

She's very mischevious though, which is probably why we get along so well. She likes to get into EVERYTHING, particularly my girlfriends makeup sponges :p

Image

She's no dummy, she knows exactly where the sponges are, and she knows that I can't tell her no  When I'm eating, she sits and patiently waits for me to give her some(she's particularly fond of plain grilled chicken)

I'm definitely part of her "staff" ;)

I read a quote once about cats, it read something to the effect of:

Every man should have a dog to worship him and a cat to ignore him :D Make no mistake, the cats are the ones in charge ;)

Thanks Hannibal for the info. ;)

Everyone here remember a few things...

1. Declawing cats is bad. I have 3 cats and they all have claws. There is no reason to have cats declawed. None of mine scratch the furniture at all. They have all been taught with a water squirt bottle that furniture is off limits to scratching. They each have 6 foot tall cat trees to sleep in or scratch on or whatever. Whenever they would scratch on something they shouldn't I would tell them no and take them over to one of the three cat trees. That combined with being squirted with a little water stopped their bad habit.

2. Inside cats live about 6 times longer than outside cats. Outside cats live 2-3 years at most. They either starve to death, die of freezing, get tortured to death by jerks, or get hit by a car.

3. If you value your furniture so much that you must have the cat declawed you shouldn't own a cat. ;) Get yourself a dog or don't have pets at all. :)

Far too many people are mean to their pets.

My sister is a manager at our local Humane Society and I hear this stuff from her all the time.

Oh and yes......please get a rescued cat from some place like the Humane Society or Friends of Pets or something. ;)

Peace!

1. I agree completely.

2. Where I live I am surrounded on two sides by a small road, and everyone living out the road thinks they are a NASCAR driver in training. Outside cats have a notoriously short life expectancy here. :(

3. Bingo. Take the initiative to trim their claws or deal with shredded furniture. When I last had a cat a weekly trimming kept the furniture pristine and the cat happy.

:spyder: I grew up with cats, love 'em. Had three siamese as a boy and I don't think I could tolerate thier constant night long patrol-style meowing. Siamese are like feline pecocks with the constant noise, all night long. ALL NIGHT LONG. :spyder:

Absolutely. All three of my girlfriends cats were rescued in some form or another. One was abused and diabetic, one was from the humane society, and one was abandoned by it's mother as a kitten(that's the one that's claimed me.)

Our most long lived outside cat lived approximately 15 years. She was the exception but must have been quite a survivor to go that long. She used to sleep with the dog on the porch when the weather froze up.

The best cat we ever had was all black and had an extra toe on each front foot, we named him Bigfoot of course. I don't know if that is a specific breed or if just a mutant variant. I have seen one other cat when I was small that had the same feature. Our cat was fearless and stood up for the downtrodden. (We had a bully tom cat by the name of Bluto who even had a beer belly) Bluto would pick on the indoor cat that now had to live outside. Even though Bigfoot was smaller because he was fixed, he would kick the crap out of Bluto whenever he misbehaved.

I like most cats. Fun to play with, not very loud, warm and furry, responsive to love, catches those darn cockroaches that appear in the house, etc.

My parents have a very pretty Somali cat. looks like this:

Flip side of this example is my buddy who never bothers to either trim claws or declaw. His furniture has been virtually ruined by his little cat.

I have always had a cat or two and I agree that there is something about their spirit that I profoundly appreciate. I have two 13 year olds. Spyder and Merlin. Spyder is the white one and Merlin is the Blue/Gray. This pic was taken when I was home sick one day. They love to camp out on me.

Doc , I hear you on cats . I have six of them ( call me a soft touch for all hard luck stories - animal or human ) .

Try a Tonkinese - same format as a Siamese , but a nicer more laid back attitude . Also very non alleginec .

Maine Coon is the next type of cat I'm getting.

I like both dogs and a cats...so why not get a cat the size of a dog.
