Delica, 101 uses including....murder

Post by Bowie Man »

Hey Everybody,

I thought you might find this interesting.

I'm currently enrolled in a General Investigators/Detective Course at work. It's a course mandated for Detectives and Officers working out of special squads such as Street Crime, Major Crime etc., to assit in case management, writing search warrants and upgrading our general knowledge on the new additions of the Criminal Code.

During this time we have several different lectures and presentations including a full day of Homicide Detectives showing off their favorite slid shows. Today we saw crime scene photos of a knife fight between two men inside of an apartment that took place in the early 90's. The victim had suffered tremendous slashes and cuts to his upper chest, arms and legs. Due to the extensive trauma, it was believed that he was attacked with a large butcher style knife.

During the autopsy it was determined that the "fatal" injury was a powerful stab into the top of his head piercing the skull and impailing the brain. In addition, a small metalic knife point was found in the skull cap (belonging to the weapon used). Detectives searched the crime scene with negative results for the murder weapon. They then executed a Search Warrant on the suspect's address and eventually found a bloodied Spyderco Delica (early 90's, plain edge, with a plastic clip) that had a broken tip.

As you can guess the point found in the victim's head matched the Delica knife blade. The type of incredible damage this little knife made was truly phenomenal. Even the coroner suggested that the weapon initially used had to be a large knife, totally dismissing the possibility of a small blade used in the attack.

For any of those that have doubts in regards to the cutting power of this little fiend....put your fears to rest.

Just thought you'd like to hear this story.

It's a shame that it had to end like that.

I however know that even with something like a Dragonfly you can inflict much damage.

I would never ever want to be in that situation.

Wow, gives new meaning to the term "little big knife". Who would have thought that a nice little delica could be so mean?

It is a shame that it ended that way though.

Good Lord that is some story! Knife fighting is indeed a nasty business. How would you like be working in Spyderco's warranty dept and get that knife back with a letter describing the tip break...

Very interesting story! But somehow, I just don't see Spyderco saying in their brochure that even the Delica can penetrate bone with only minor chipping

Personally, I'm not surprised about the damage, an adrenaline boost can do wonderous things for your strength.

I think Doc's gotten the point :D

Bowie Man, looking at the original post, what were some of the other favourite slide shows of Homicide Detectives? Any more "interesting" knife stories?

I have seen also blade smaller than 3" do incredible trama to a body.

Remember it is the intent of the attacker that increases the final outcome.
