Speed Dialer for Waved Spydercos

#1

Post by On/Scene Tactical »

Hey Guys....

I'd like to Introduce to you the "Speed Dialer", the First and Only Neck, Belt, Shoulder and IWB Deployment system of it’s kind, developed especially for the Waved Delica and Endura series.

Image

Image

Image

This system was designed for use on the Mercharness shoulder rig, however is adaptable to Civilian Labs shoulder systems as well as most other popular brand harnesses.

In the Shoulder rig the Speed Dialer can be carried left/right handed, Strong Arm/Cross Draw, and draw in both forward and reverse grip. It will also deploy easily in the seated position.

A simple pull straight out, and the knife is deployed with authority and speed.

Image

In Neck carry, access is quick and to the point

Image

The Speed Dialer can also easily be carried in IWB mode and will draw in both forward and reverse grip.

If you've ever found yourself with pants where the pockets are too thin and don't support the Waved Spyderco, the IWB Speed Dialer is the perfect answer to the problem.

The internal "trip wire" is user friendly, and if it should become damaged is easily repaired using ordinary 550 cord, knotted on both sides and ends sealed with heat.

The Speed Dialer has been deployed over 100 times, without a single failure, with no damage to the "trip wire what so ever.

This unique design makes it nearly fool proof, giving you accuracy each and every draw, and longevity in a clean simple Quick Deploying package.

Image

A Belt rig is in the works, however it hasn't been debugged yet.
The belt rig will come with my standard closed 1.75" belt loop and will also work with the mini tek lok as a bolt on option and the large tek lok with a simple mod to the TL itself.

Drawing motion on the belt rig is straight backwards/forwards or up/down, and will work both left and right handed, handle up or down, depending on which grip you want to deploy into.

I would like to Thank James Perdue of Self Defence Forums for lighting the fire on this project..

If you have any questions,, please feel free to drop me a note Anytime.

I was wondering when one of you smart sheath makers would do something like this! Nicely done, looks great.

Very Interesting! But I don't know if I would want a waved anything begining to open while still under my shirt....I'll stick with sheath knives for neck carry...The wave IMHO belongs inthe pocket...that is where it will do it magic quickly...I have no need for neck carry of a waved model, even the shoulder model would cut or get caught up in the over garment used for concealment though I do think it's a cool idea but an unsafe one....Doc :D

While I kinda agree with Dr. Snub on some points of the neck carry, I do think that the IWB and Belt carry are great options.

Hey Guys...

Dr. Snub...

Yes,, under the shirt will be a problem for sure.. However it doesn't have to be worn under the shirt..
I've had the neck rig on for two days,, and and around town under a zippered Hoodie,, and all I do is unzip past the knife and draw.. Very quick,,Very easy...

For people who can only carry folders the Delica in a Speed dialer neck rig would be an excellent alternative to a fixed blade.. As fast as a fixed blade,, while still being legal..

As for shoulder carry..
I have my Endura riding in a Mercharness under my left arm(Drawing Strong Arm). The handle of the Endura rides just above the bottom of the jacket.. Even with the jacket zipped,, a quality draw is still possible...

The Endura comes out of the rig so fast,, that it is fully engaged before it clears the bottom of the jacket, and as long as it doesn't hang up on the way out,, it works pretty good..Granted if it hangs up on the way it,, there would be a problem...On a tight jacket,, it would be a problem...

If the jacket is unzipped,, simply draw straight outward and the knife will clear the jackt in the same way as a fixed blade would...

IWB the same way..The entire rig clears the pants before the knife is even brought into play.

I absolutely agree with you that these issues can/could/would be a problem, and pants pocket is still the best carry option for a Waved Spyderco,, but this rig gives the user a bunch of options that were never possible before...

I for one have a couple of pairs of pants that I won't/Can't wear a Waved Spyderco,, and that becomes a problem when my Waved spyderco is my Go To knife...

As for the Kind Words,,

Thanks you guys!!

Hey Guys...

Forgot a couple of things....

Not only can you draw the rig straight down, the rig actually draws better and faster if you draw the rig, by Grasping the knife as you would normally and pushing straight out and up away from you...

Doing this the same way, but putting the butt of the knife upward(Drawing upside down), draws the knife into a Reverse grip in the same fashion, at the same speed.

I can even draw the knife in Reverse grip Cross draw with my right hand if need be...

The options in deploying with this rig are quite interesting...

Thanks

ERIC,

I don't have a wave yet. But this may convience me to get one.

It definitely looks like a solution to a problem. Job well done in my opinion.

Hey Big Cat...

Thanks for the kind words...
Don't let this rig decide whether to get one or not...

The Waved Endura and Delica stand on their own merits....

By far two of my favorite folders I've EVER owned..Once you have a Waved Spyderco.. it's hard to look at a folder the same way...

They are simply Awesome knives....

Thanks Again...

Eric: You points are well taken...and it looks like a good product from where I stand ;) Now if only someone could invent a sheath that would open all folders like the one you are showing for the Waved models...I'd buy stock in the company......Good Luck with your product.....Doc :D

Hey Dr...

Thank you very much....

We Both indeed have valid points to seriously consider...

As for your other idea...

I did have in production a year or so ago a belt rig that auto opened a Benchmade 710, it fell by the wayside. There are a few of them still out there,, not sure if they are still functioning properly or not, but mine still works well......

I also have prototypes of two devices that opens most if not any Spyderco knife in the same manner, one is called "The Kill Switch", which is stand alone, the other is specific to each knife...

Unfortunately there is little time to R&D these types of things, when there is work to be done.

The Speed Dialer a rig I played with on the Commander,, but didn't work so well 4-5 years ago, just happened to jump out of nowhere for the Waved spydercos,, and I had 100% working prototypes in only two days... alot more experience working with this material than 5 years ago...

Thanks

Eric

Hi Eric. Great idea, congratulations. I like the concept and the way you put it into practice. Thanks for sharing and for the great pics.

My Dear Friend,

At the point I obtain a Waved Endura expect me to contact you - I am very impressed with this design, and will make a point of pestering and annoying you until I can somehow coerce you into crafting one for me. :D

Seriously, the design is fantastic. Good job!

good idea! i have seen it before but it may have been you. these could make good pocket liners as well--remove the clip on the endura and put it on the sheath. Clip the sheath to a pocket and the endura sits in there with no clip to bug you when using.
