I wish again to plead a case in favor of a larger production, however this time on different grounds.
I don't think that this is necessarily a case of not enough people WANTING it, but rather a case of too few people even knowing that it exists until it's too late. By then, the forumites are the only voices heard on the matter as most people only hear that it's discontinued and give up the search.
This is a problem I've seen many times in the past with a company I worked for. We would get in a new item that had the potential to sell like crazy, was reviewed in magazines several months before as the greatest thing since sliced bread, and it wouldn't sell. Why? Because their advertising was terrible, sales promotions were the same thing every week or month, and there was not even the slightest mention of new gear being in stock, much less mentioning the newly acquired "greatest product ever."
By all means, make a small run (let's call it 750 or so), but make sure it's widely publicised and keep more of that pink FRN mix at the ready in case demand increases!
I have no doubt it would sell, but people have to know it's there to buy. Word of mouth is good, but now and then, something that people can physically see is even better.
If you announce it, they will come.

Indeed, they are more popular after the run, but the one thing that stands unclear is whether or not such a run was publicised (and if so, how widely) prior to it's release. Something as simple as a magazine ad (in Blade, Rock and Ice, Field and Stream, Backpacker, etc.) could draw a GREAT deal of attention to even such a limited production. Let's be honest, there are a great deal of women who carry and use knives, but not the majority. And women would be the primary market for a pink knife anyway.sal wrote:Only about 50 collectors take all variations, so 450 out of the 500 would be "open" stock. In he past, we've always had to "close out" the pink Delicas produced, so we know we don't want to make a large number. They seem to be more popular after we're finished with the run. I would rather make 500 and sell them all.

A very wise man once told me "Eat to live; don't live to eat." ...To my knowledge that's the only stupid thing he's ever said.
