E3/D3 or Salt: Need recommendations

#1

Post by TK »

Hi,

I need a new EDC. I need something with a simple construction that doesn't need daily maintenance. In addition it must be lightweight. I carry my knives 24/7. It's not unusual that my knives are covered with my sweat. My current EDC is a black bladed Military. My sweat left some nasty spots on the blade that I wasn't able to remove yet. So I'm a little disappointed with that :( .

Now my choices:

1. Endura 3 / Delica 3 SE (NO E4/D4!)
2. Pacific Salt / Salt 1 SE

Edge retention and ease of sharpening are no issues. What would you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Thomas

I carry my Endura3/SE in my pocket at work all day.

Because it's hot there at the moment, the knife is a little moist all day.

When I come home, I just wipe the blade dry and the first pits have yet to come ;)

After every sharpening I wipe the blade with a little Ballistol though.

IMO the Endura 3 is the best "just plain simple" working knife Spyderco ever made(closely followed by the Delica 3)

Either of the Salt knives sound perfect for you, especially if your knives are routinely covered in sweat.

AFAIK, H1 doesn't rust. So if that's what you're worried about, a Salt would be a good choice.

Let him fracture your bones and you take his life!

Indeed, the Salt seems like the knife for you. SE is very nice in a Salt. :D

Senior Blonde is right about those serrated edges. Serrated H-1 has good edge retention, and sharpening is as easy as any other serrated edge, it just comes down to how good you are at sharpening them. Some people find SE blades a pain to sharpen.
