does anybody here own the spydercard?

what do you think about this knife.

how does it compare to the Boker Subcom?

I'm thinking about getting a short folder with a fat blade next.

Hi dete,
I have both of these knives. Although the Spydercard is nice and I am glad I have it, it has always just sat in the box since I got it. On the other hand, the Chads Subcom F has been in my pocket every day since I got it several months ago. It is a great little knife. Try to find one with the AUS 8 steel. You will not be sorry!!

Ron

A couple of pics for you.

The Spydercard and SF are the two knives that are going to get me arrested if I ever fly on a plane. I always have them with me, and half the time forget to unload them when I'm going somewhere "restrictive".

Both are great knives, here's some pics just for comparison purposes.

I own three Spydercards. Two PE and one CE. I personally found them suprisingly big. However, the ergonomics are surpisingly good in the saber grip. Alwo the blade is very sharp and that point is wicked. Not as ergonomic as the SF, but then again, it is also a bigger knife.
First they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not stand up, because I was not a Trade Unionist.

I'm with Ron and Ghostrider on this one. Nothing wrong with the 'card, but really it doesn't carry well IMO. Theoretically designed to carry in the wallet. Not the most convenient of places for a knife. A fat, heavy wallet is no way to go through life.

Actually I find the extra thickness quite nice for keeping my credit cards from flopping out of my wallet. There's very rarely any cash in there to give it any thickness, so stuff would fall out of there if not for the Spydercard. ;)

The card is good. A surprisingly serious knife for what you would expect to be just a gadget.

Your spine would thank you, if you bought a better wallet and thinned it down. There is a whole segment of males who pack around inch plus thick wallets in their back pockets and wonder why their back hurts. The uneven sitting caused by the fat wallet strains the spine until it hurts. For that reason and to also increase the odds vs. a pickpocket, I carry my wallet in a front pocket. It also keeps me from flashing a CCW pistol, which is a risk if I carry my firearm in the popular strong side/flank position, when I pull my wallet from the strong side rear pocket...the traditional spot for a man's wallet. ;)

I carry my spydercard by itself, in my back pocket, where it positively disappears and I don't even notice I'm carrying it. My only complaint is that I'm always tempted to use it for everything, and grip security is weak. But as a backup to my endura or 710 or whatever, it's great. I'm planning on picking up an 8A subcom to see if it might play the role of secondary knife better ... not as slim in the pocket, but the grip security could easily make up for it.

why do you think I carry a custom wallet that only holds 6 cards and a couple bills?

back on topic though.... had a 'card, loved it.... carried it all the time, used it lots... gave it to a forumite when customs nabbed his.

My local has a couple in still, might pick up another one.... and I need an ID holder for my work stuff, might find something to toss the 'card in too.

I have one and it is just a bit too big for my BillFold wallet. I carry a Ti-Card made by IIRC Nemesis. It's a twist of irony for me to call the Spydercard too big for me when I always carry two 4 inch blade Spyderco folders.

Oh trust me, my wallet's not thick at all, and I've had the same one for so long it's molded to the shape of my posterior.

No lower back problems here.

The pickpocket thing I had never thought about though...nice point.

thank you for the pics, thank you for the replies!

beautiful knives, they are different enough from the typical
folders out there that I think it's worth having one in your collection!

Dang I can't wait to get one!

IMHO, the Subcom is both MUCH more versatile, and MUCH more comfortable for prolonged use than the Spdyercard. On the other hand, the Spydercard just happens to be the right size and right thickness to fit neatly behind the metal cased pocket calculator that always rides in my shoulder bag. ;) :D

Well at least you moved you calculator out from your pocket protected shirt pocket... ;)

Probably because when I smoked my rollbox and lighter had dibs on my shirt pocket. :o Since I quit, it's empty almost all the time. :D
