Man, those are some magic words: "Corrosion resistance is similar to VG-10" and "abrasion resistance is comparable to CPM-S30v". Oh, wait, here's my favorite part, "Sharpening is relatively simple with the Sharpmaker system" YES! :D Thanks for this little jem, Kristi! You do know what makes our day! Now, what sprint was going to be in BG-42? :p

How does it compair to ZDP-189 as far as the RC you can tempure it to?

Once tempured to where you want it, how brittle is it in comparison?

Could this steel hold an edge as well as ZDP but take the abuse of a field knife like, maybe, a bushcraft?

I love BG-42. It is one of my all time favorite steels. It was the steel of choice (made popular by) the late great Bob Loveless. Thanks Kristi.

I've got a couple BG 42 knives myself. I think everybody fortunate enough to get one of this run will be very satisfied. One thing that the military probably won't have is a highly polished blade though. This is a very good looking steel when really polished. Like VG 1 or AUS 8A, perhaps better.

The knives I have are hardened to RC 62 and it isn't really any problem to sharpen, and it takes a sharp edge. It's also not fragile or delicate when heat treated properly.

If you can afford it, buy one. You darn sure won't regret it. I just wish they would make a run of Endura's or Delica's with BG 42, or perhaps a Calypso. Good job again Spyderco! Joe L.

He did, and then in the 90s he switched to BG-42 and began promoting that instead

Thanks a lot Kristi

So, the abrasion resistance is similar to S30V? Well then it won't be that hard to make these BG-42 blades fully serrated as well I suppose ;) :D

Kristy,
The information sheet says that BG42 has similar corrosion resistance to VG10. Is VG10 more corrosion resistant than S30V?
