my newest spydie

Post by copilotboy »

I have a Shabaria coming in the mail anytime now. I'm really excited. does anyone else have one? I've never actually seen of held one before, so I'm a little nervous but i'm sure it will be awesome. this is my first custom knife, first spydie with a liner lock, and first knife with vg-10 steel. I got it for $90 from cti.

BTW, knifedude, where in kansas do you live?

copilotboy, the Shabaria design is not for everyone. Personally, I like it very much. It is one of the nastiest cutting knife that I own--a combination of the VG-10 material and unique blade profile. If you saw the movie "Return of the Mummy" you will see similarities between the Shabaria's blade and the swords carried by the desert warriors (I don't know what they were called in the movie).

I understand that there is an upgrade in 2001. Do you have this upgrade or is it the original? I don't know the differences and have not seen the upgrade first hand.

You will need to experiment with different grips and find one that works for you. I started with a saber grip at first and did not particularly like the feeling. However, I later tried the hammer grip and found that to be the best grip for me. Also, try gripping the knife sans clip--real nice.

Be aware that some posters have reported broken clips on their Shabarias. It may be due to the small cutout on the clip to allow access to the pivot screw for tensioning. I hope you find this helpful.

Hi Brandon. I carry a Shabaria quite often. I also try to remember the 1700 years of history that goes with the design. That is a long time, compared with a life time.
