"BLADES FOR LESS" EXPERIENCE?

#1

Post by ctucker »

I recently purchased a Spyderco LadyBug II as a gift from the above company's website: "Blades for Less." On their site they show one photo of the LadyBug series and give one narrative description of the knives in this series. They describe the blade configuration as a "combination" blade. The picture shows a blade with a standard edge and point for about half the length of it and the balance is serrated. As I buy many knife gifts for friends, family, associates, etc., during the course of the year, this seemed like one good option to add to my list of knives for purchase. Accordingly, I placed an order for a single knife in order to determine quality, service, etc. Charges were posted to my account in less than two days.

I should also point out that in this ad it lists the various models of the LadyBug series. The only difference noted from the general description and picture is the handle colors and in the case of the LadyBug II, the handle size. No mention at all of any differences in blade configuration.

The knife arrived a couple of weeks later in the mail. Imagine my surprise when I opened the knife box and opened the blade from the handle. The blade was a fully serrated blade from end to end in the configuration found on the Spyderco "Rescue" models.

I won't go into all the ugly interactions with the representatives of the company, but suffice it to say that they did not want to take responsibility for their error and make an adjustment. Visit their site and check out the ad to which I refer and let me know if you have had any similar problems.

The general quality of the knife was terrific. However, since it is not the configuration I requested it is of no use to me. Since I was unwilling to be out of pocket to return it to the seller, I rendered it "safe" and pitched it in the dumpster. That isn't a statement of the quality of the knife but the quality of the service from this company.

Just curious if anybody else has had a similar experience? Perhaps the fact that they are a discount house is the problem.

Thanks,

Well, wish you'd sent me the doomed knife, but what the hey?

I just looked up the site. Am afraid they kind of "have you" to a point. When you read down the list of the various categories, and find the Ladybugs, for the Ladybug II they say Spyder Edge. Then, when you click on the group heading to see the individual knives, they certainly say that the Ladybugs come with a combo edge. Both the individual page and the list use the same part/order # for the knife.

Don't blame you for being upset, but am sure from their perspective that since they did have it in writing that the LBII had the Spyderedge, they feel they're in the right. Of course, a good company would recognize that the poor communications is their responsibility and make it right with the customer, but frequently, the lowest priced outfits aren't known for their great customer satisfaction urges.

Better luck next time.

i went to that sight as well the prices seem good but my advice is that a company that payes for decent web design will also pay to give good customer service. and blades for less didn't seem to.

I can't say anything about Blades for Less. I have no experience with them. I will say this...

You threw it away? You paid $20+ for something and you threw it away because you didn't want to be out $2 (or even $5) to return it? That is the craziest thing I have read in a knife forum in a long time. Why not just give it to someone? I would have given it to a coworker, friend, mail carrier, a random EMT, or anybody!! You could have sold it on the forums.

I'm sorry you don't have much sympathy from me, if your response was to toss a perfectly good knife. What a waste, and doubly so since it was a good knife.

That was probably the harshest thing I've even posted, but I had to say it. <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

It would have been a real nice gesture to give it to someone who could really use it and something good would have come from a bad deal.

Well, I wasn't going to say anything either but...

I simply don't understand throwing the knife away. It bothered me quite a bit to hear of someone discarding such a fine tool. I have been planning to buy one of these myself for a while, for coin-pocket carry in my jeans. They are a wonderful little knife. I am sorry to hear that you felt less than satisfied with the service provided by that company, but it would have been nice to see someone have the use of that fine knife. Jeff/1911.

Dude what planet are you from?, yes it may have not been of use to you at the moment but is it really a bad lill carry knife?, you dont throw things like that in the trash.
If you wanted to get rid of it, you should have posted here saying so, saying whoever will pay for the postage can have the blade as is.
I guareentee you a lotta reponses and a good home for that fine crafted blade.
Its upsetting to read such a thing, there is no logic behind such an action, and seems a tad childish, as if you didnt get what you want so youll throw your toys out the cott.

Thats not intended as an insult to youself but please, you must admit that was really way to hasty.

Hope the poor blade finds a good home.

P.S If this happens again plz take my advice and post here with the "postage paid" idea.

The comment in the original post "I rendered it "safe" ", tells me the knife would probably not be of use to any one.....
Oh well......

Troll!

I think the dude is a troll. No-one but a total loser moron idiot freak would throw away a knife that he had paid good money for. Why not just give it to a friend, or a passer by, or just let it lay in a drawer for 20 years?

This guy is trying to stir everyone up...and he had some luck.

I agree that this posting may have been a sucessful "stir". My thought is of how nice it would (will) be when I own enough Spydies that I can leave one in the console of my truck, or it's glove compartment and perhaps one in my toolbox, etc. just so there's always something close by. This little ladybug could have lain somewhere handy and useful for years...

Although, I always seem to have a Spydie with me anyway... however not everyone else does. You see, I find that I not only want to be well equipped myself, but I have this great desire to equip everyone I know (or at least care about) with a Spydie.

I often think these days; I can't figure out how I managed to get through the day before I discovered the fun and usefulness of having a fine tool such as a Spyderco knife with me all the time like I do now...
