I prefer any lock that's fully ambi, so my favorites are the lockback, ball lock and compression locks. Though I'd like to see more Ti handles with integral compression locks!

Which locking mechanism?
i think most of the reason for my preference for the backlock is the machined mechanical quality of it. that same quality i find lacking from liner/frame locks in addition to my already mentioning thier difficult use. i think though i may very well have a new favorite lock when my Dodo arrives.

I like the security, looks, and ease of the compression lock. Another big plus is that it's easy to keep clean(a big deal when you work in a carpet mill like I do, I have to clean fuzz out TWICE a day on a lock back)
I like the tight lock-up of the ball, my only complaint is that it can get dirty and give the impression of blade play.
Lock backs are really growing on me, but as Spydutch said, many have play(but I know it's still secure, but still bothers me a bit) and fuzz get's built up.
Not trying to be negative here, just throwing in a few cons with each of the pros, all are great!
I guess I just can't make up my mind as to which I like best
Maybe seeing a Caly III with a compression lock would change my mind :p

I like the Compression Lock because it's strong, simple, reliable, and lefty-friendly.

Another vote here for the front lock (if its done well like a spyderco). It feels strong to me and I also like the full-ambi thing as well. It also confuses the least amount of other people that I let borrow my knife (even though some still don't get how to close it  ) Still, I like any lock that's done well and all the spydercos I've handled pass that test. A bad liner-lock one of my least favorites though!
