Aloha ALL,

MAHALO MUCH everyone! So good to see the "old timers" as well as some of the "new faces"! Thanks SO much everyone and those who sent emails. :)

Wish my Bday was like Spyderknut's, but it was kinda hectic...oh well. I enjoyed it just the same though. No knives with holes in the blades for me either...well, yet anyway. ;) My wife and daughter DID however get me a ton of Star Wars E3 stuff though. (yes, the geek in me was stoked BIG time! :p )

It's funny though, ya know? My Bday was just like any other day, except with cake and a buncha E3 stuff with a card. Not that I was unappreciative or anything, far from it. See, when I got into Corrections, everyday that I wake up is a "birthday" for me. Well, actually becoming a CO sorta "emphasized" this feeling. Here's why:

April 2nd, 2006 Special Holding Unit: An inmate in Iso had a "chord wrapped" sharp instrument, threatening to stab anyone who opened his cell door. I was working another unit at the time, but I suited up for this inmate last year for a cell extraxction. I know what he is capable of doing...I "worked" with him for almost two years in another unit at one time. Anyway, I called around, to see who would make the five man cell extraction team. Only two co-workers I would trust entering that cell with...not good. Since I was running another unit, if it was to hit the fan, I was gonna request to be a part of that team, simply because I am always placed 2nd in formation after the shield man. My objective to control his striking arm/weapon bearing arm. I know this inmate well...I got "into his head" a few times, which is why he never tried me. Many ugly situations got prevented because of this "tactic", and I am thankful. However...

I began to think, "What if he managed to strike me where I would die? What if he bit a huge chunk of my jugular or artery out? You know, what if I got fatally wounded on April 2nd?"

Kinda morbid I know, but this is why everyday I awake, it is a "birthday" for me, and I thank God daily for it. ;) Am I making sense or what?

Anywaaaaaaaay, enough about ****. Mahalo much to everyone and it would be Titus to start this thread...oh, he is an good dancer BTW, but gotta work on his conditioning! :p Thanks for the thread Titus, aka Master Yoda...and to everyone who posted. Mahalo for being a part of my "birthdays". ;)

God bless and take care all,
Chad

Chad, buddy, I think you are thinking to much about this pesimistic, maybe even morbid stuff. I cant wait to see you in the Knife Designers Hall of Fame once and only telling this stories from your past ages. I think it pretty possible, just look back, two designs out and too many before you!!! ;)

Hey Jano,

Yes, it appears like a negative and morbid view at first...but only at first. However, when you wake up and "celebrate" each day you are given, then you WILL live it as best as you can, right? ;)

Uh, as for this Knife Design Hall of Fame...no way, not me! Didn't you see the sign there that reads, "This Hall Reseved For DiAlex" ;)

God bless and take care knifebro
