Second knife?

#1

Post by Freshman »

I was thinking about getting a second knife for possible on campus carry. When I send my Delica to Spyderco for sharping but when I have both what would you recommend I do with the other one? It seems hard to justify two knifes if I only carry one.

Just do what some of the other knife people like myself do, justify many knives by carrying them all<img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> I almost always have at least 2 or 3 knives on me, and sometimes as many as 5 if I'm working out in the woods. A good second knife can come in handy a lot of times, I would recommend a Calypso, Jr lightweight if you want to stick with Spydies. It's a great little knife and one of my personal favorites, plus the size should be campus friendly.

The way I justify it is to have one plain edged and one serrated.

It's my preference over carrying a 50/50.

One for your right side, one for your left side. You know, in case one arm is trapped.

Wanna now how to justify owning multiple knives?
One word...become a COLLECTOR.
You should never feel obligated to justify doing or owning something that you enjoy...just as long as its legal! If you enjoy knives, buy knives. Its as simple as that. I happen to own hundreds of knives, and have no plans on ending my growing collection.
Spyderco's are addicting, so go ahead and buy a second, third, fourth, fifth, tenth, twentieth ...
The only down side is choosing which to carry each day...

Because I ran into this problem originally collecting guns, I'll share my solution with you. Currently I own 7 Spydercos. That's an odd number. Naturally, I need one more to have an even number. But then I have an even number, and I need another to make it odd again. See how that works? That explains why I've amassed 23 firearms in a short time, and at least as many knives. Works well, give it a shot!

By the way, with that many knives, how do you pick the one to carry?

Well,Freshman, its actually kind of easy to decide which knife to carry each day...
First I consider the day...Will I be out on water? Will I be in the woods? Will I be around "Sheeple"?Will I be in a dangerous area?
This usually gives me a pretty good idea on the type of knife that I need.
Then its just personal preference choosing from the knives that meet the criteria for the day.
I know this sounds like a lot of work just to choose a knife, and I'll be honest with you...it is!I normally only go through this process when I'm doing something special that particular day, or going someplace that I normally do not go.
Most of the time I carry either my SS Harpy, my Calypso Jr. Ltwt PE, my Benchmade 705 Axis, a Victorinox Huntsman, or a Leatherman tool because they are each general utility tools and perform well for a variety of tasks.
Sorry for going on and on, but, hey, its the truth!

hey freshman i agree with blademaster i have about 9 or 10 knives i always carry a vicorinox, i have 4 (mostly gifts) one, the swiss champ, i leave in my glove box the and a fireman (locking)i leave in my camera bag, then i rotate the other 2 if one gets dull and don't have time to sharpen, one has a corksrew--going to a picnic/party etc. military, harpy and gerber multi-tool (that goes on my belt)in a tool bag, a cheap old "beater" stockman for things you might ruin a good knife doing, in a dresser draw, a copiolet on one set of keys and bob lum chinese folder or tim wegener in my pocket. like blademaster if i think i might have to do a lot of heavy cutting, helping somebody move or doing home improvements, i would put in the wegner on, but on an average day the lum. when i take a road trip i usly take a large knife and a small one just incase, cargo pants help. i would buy a new fixed blade for camping. around campus, just like in outside life,i find more that one knife handy for the various stuations.

also larger pockets can get larger knives while smaller pockets get smaller knives.
