MaNcEr,
As far as I know it is true, I think they are a little hard to find though. The place I got mine said they were backordered for a long time.
Does anybody else have any concrete info. about the subject?

Yes, they are more readily available, athough not pictured on our site or promoted for other than LEO. They are also not warranteed against general use. You break the tip, too bad.

They are currently backordered because the next production run is not yet finished.

2 questions:

What is a LEO?

Why was the matriarch ever restricted to LEO's

Why isn't it covered by the warranty?

alright baszerkawits here's the deal...
LEO - Law enforcement officer
originally the Matriarch was shipped overseas and to LEO because Spyderco was concerned (and I think Rightly so) that this was not a knife that just anyone should be able to have. The "unsavory" crowd might favor a knife like this and that isn't what they wanted. Sal has reconsidered a bit and has allowed open sales but the warranty issue is they cover regular warranty type things but he still would prefer this knife to not be an everyday carry piece. So you break the tip doing everyday things it wasn't designed for then tough luck. This is from my info gathering if I'm wrong someone will set me right I am sure.

But the reason the civie was never for LEO's was because it was expensive and "punks" won't dish out $150+ ?

If you break the tip off of the civie, will sal replace it?

Why is the civie so much more if the matriarch is now available? (to regular people)

The Civvie costs more simply due to materials. The G-10 costs more in production and materials than the FRN.
