My First Spyderco

#1

Post by copilotboy »

I want to here everyone's story surrounding the appearance and purchase of their first spyderco. As for me, i ordered my copilot after a lenghty process of researching the mouse, navigator, copilot, native, and harpy(and begging my parents). when i determined that the copilot was the best for the price and the one that also fit my uses best, i ordered it.

Hey, Copilotboy, thanks for asking...
I'd always carried knives at work: utility knife/box cutters to big heavy Schrade to light thin Schrade to Gerber to Buck... never knowing or caring about materials/steels/hardness etc. I was more oriented toward ease of deployment, and my knives evolved along that parameter.
Then I read "Hannibal", and out of curiosity looked up Spyderco on the web. What I found fascinated me and I lurked here for some time learning all I could re. various grades and manufacturers of steels, virtues of the many handle materials & lock types, size & carry laws, ergonomics, and so on. Soon decided I must have some, and as I had to start somewhere I picked an Endura Lightweight as my first. No regrets!

My first purchase was kind of mundane. I'd been thinking about Spydercos, and looking at them on various web dealer sites. Then, one night a few weeks ago, happened to find an ad soon after posting on the sales forum at BF. It was for the large Dyad. I immediately went to a site, looked at it some more, decided to buy it. There is little doubt that the fact it was listed as in very good condition and just about exactly half the retail price, caused me to send the appropriate e-mail. And, I was first. I got it soon, and it was as described.

However, I must say that the picture and descscription didn't do enough to prepare me for it's size, and solidity and quality of its manufacture. I mean instantly I knew this was a quality knife.

Bought a Walker Ltwt. shortly after. I love that little knife. There will be more Spydies in my future, am sure. I ordered the Goddard Ltwt. last nite! at SKMW, not too long before they sold out. Means there is no way can now buy the BM AFCK I wanted at closeout on Bayou Lafourche, but decided the Goddard is probably more knife anyway.

Sorry so dull, but meaningful to me.
