The Ocelot~ Royal flush

#1

Post by JD Spydo »

I just got my first Ocelot. I was reluctant to get one because I already had several Wegner models of Spyderco's and some of Blade-Tech's. This knife is the "motherlode" of all EDC knives I have run into in a while. This knife is about close to perfect in so many aspects. To say that I was pleasantly surprised is not accurate. I was totally astounded  .

It is not very often that I get a new Spyder and have it immediately make it to my personal top 10 Spyders. But this knife has truly made a statement with me. It is much more ergonomic than it appeared in all the catalogs and magazines. I don't think a "supercomputer" could have designed a knife as good as this one. I equate this knife to a home run being hit over the center field wall with men on base in the last half of the ninth inning. Or Kobe Bryant canning a 3 pointer from half court with only one second left to take the game. That is the impact this Ocelot made on me. Right now I have to nominate the Ocelot as KNIFE OF THE YEAR.

I haven't had a Spyder impress me this much since I got my first big Dyad  . The Ocelot is my new buddy ;) . Thank you Mr. Glesser>> thank you so much :)

JD,
Extreme co-incidence, as I too received my new Ocelot in the mail today.
And you're right, it is an awesome knife. Everything about it is perfect.
It handles much better than the C48 Wegner, which I always thought was a bit on the large side. I love my Caly Jrs, but this "cat" is going to replace my left hand Caly Jr PE as my EDC (I flipped the clip around to the left side).
And did I forget to mention the fabulous fit and finish. I am ASTOUNDED!!!

I'm glad to hear the great comments about the ocelot. I have looked at the knife, but can't seem to get past the paw prints all over the handle. I'll have to take another look.

The Paw prints look much better in person and I don't think I wopuld like it near as much if it did not have them.
My PE is seeing a good bit of pocket time.

This is one I've been thinking about for a while, and I just can't decide if I want one. I think the Paw prints are cute, and the pic in the "Calendar" thread is just making me want one more and more...

I've only used the Ocelot for a few days and I love it more and more every day. The ergos are superb; it fits the hand better than any other knife that I own. The length seems to position the Spyderhole in the proper relationship for thumb opening. It's hard to explain, but the size of the hole combined with it's relationship to the blade axis, plus the smoothness of blade between two steel liners has a quality unmatched by other Spydies. It is SMOOOOTH! It cuts like the devil and looks better than the pictures give it credit.
It feels like a "real" knife. It's not as wide as the Manix, Mini Maxix and Lil Temp, which, ergonomically, is a good thing.
Besides.....the paws are just too cute!! My wife loves it, too. I need to keep an eye on it as it might get "appropriated".
If anyone out there has been mulling over buying it, don't hestitate on this one. If you do, you will miss out on one of the best Spydies ever produced.

With the claim to fame that the big C-48 Tim Wegner had I must proclaim that I do believe the Ocelot with the ergos and ability to get into tight places will be a superior hunting/game knife. Not to mention being a super EDC. I am torn between whether to keep my burgundy Caly as an EDC or temporarily retiring my ZDP Caly so the Ocelot can get broken in.

However being a believer in Back UP Units I guess maybe I will wait a bit. But the Ocelot is at the top of the potential EDC list. If someone is wanting a first knife. IF they want to jump right in and go ahead and spend the bucks for a quality piece. It's a "no brainer' the Ocelot is without a doubt the ultimate choice. ;) :spyder:
