Sharpening a Spyderedge

I Have both an Endura Stainless and an Endura Lightweight with the spyderedge. I've gone into knife shops in town that supposedly sharpen knives, at least they do until I pull one of mine out. They all say Not that knife. SO what should I Do to sharpen these? I looked at the catalog under sharpeners but there are a lot of choices. Is there a Way to Ship these off to Spyderco in order to get a Factory Edge put back on them?? Even if there is a small fee it might be worth it. Cause #1, I've never really sharpened a knife and I dont wanna screw these sweet ones up. Cause #2, They know their knives better than anyone and should be the best qualified to do such a job. The Spyderco Sharpmaker will do an excellent job of sharpening your serrated knives. It comes with a 45 minute video that will show you how to sharpen everything with an edge. You can find the Sharpmaker on our website at www.spyderco.com. You can also send your Spyderco knives in to our warranty dept. for free sharpening. Your cost will be $5 for return shipping.

The Sharpmaker is the way to go for Spydie edges. I have the ol' 203 model, but the 204 is the one to have now days. It is a very easy and clean system to use.
Something useful for touch ups in the field are the little triangle stones out there. I believe GATCO and Lansky both make one.

I agree about the Sharpmaker! Such a great product! That what I use most of the time when I sharpen my serations. Another option would be to use a DMT serrated sharpner.

DMT make a "butterfly" pattern tapered diamond that is probably all you will need.

Welcome to the forums! Another vote for the Sharpmaker here, one of the best Spyder-investments I've made! You can ship it in to be sharpened too if you like. I'm not sure what the fee is, but I don't think it's that much.

Greetings CCLA, and welcome to the forum. As the others have said, the Sharpmaker is the way to go for serrations. However, keep in mind that the Sharpmaker is an "edge maintinence" tool. It is designed to keep knives sharp. If your knives are too dull, then you'll probably be better off sending them in first while your waiting for the Sharpmaker to arrive. It's always best to not let the knife get dull by frequent "touch-ups" and sharpenings. It's a lot easier to keep a knife sharp than it is to sharpen a dull knife.

I am bewildered by this. How can you pull up a thread that is over 4 years old? I didn't think you could go back any further than a month or 2. Another thing I would like an explanation on is how can CCLA do a post on a thread that is over 4 years old and it says that he/she joined in Sept 2004. Is there a Spyder version of the Twilight Zone :eek: . Maybe we will see Rod Serling on the next 204 Sharpening video :rolleyes: ?

Oh, that is an easy one JD. Just look at your or my join date:Sep 2004. In Sep. 2004 Spyderco transitioned to the "new" Spyderco forum. The new looks and software. ALL join dates were reset in the process. So everybody who has joined in OR BEFORE Sep. 2004 has the same join date. (Or did you really think that the Carlos, Deacon, Daywalker, Dialex, VW etc. have been hanging out in this place for only a year or so ).

Well HOB the one main reason I didn't realize that is because I did join the Forum on September 28, 2004. I never even realized that they did that. So I joined just shortly after the new transition. I still dont know how to pull up a thread that is that old. I rarely see one come back even from a month or so ago. OH Well? Plus I bet we have had at least 20 to 30 serrated sharpening threads since I joined. But what the heck do I know

Slicker24 - Hi from Calgary :) Sorry to take so long to reply. In Canada, there are a couple of places that come to mind immediately. If you are looking at going online: http://www.knifezone.ca is one and http://www.swords.ca (Cutting Edge) is another for the Sharpmaker. I can't recall seeing a Sharpmaker in House of Knives. They do have Lansky, though. I was just in Target Knives, http://www.targetknives.ca, but I can't recall seeing one there, but I'm sure there probably were a few kicking around - there's a lot of stuff in that shop :D It's not their web page, though, so you may have to call them Pauline at knifezone and Cutting Edge should both have them in stock.

JD: 2000 posts since Sep 2004....holy cow....! I am impressed. How you pull up such an old tread is even easier. Do a search for "Spyderedge", pull up the oldest post that the search yields (which is from Aug. 2000) and click "post reply".....
