Deer Camp 05

#1

Post by Irish Lager »

I thought i would share some pics of my foutunite weekend at deer camp. Feel free to tell you story and pics if you like. I feel it is necessary to post a warning for some.
Warning, Graphic images enclosed.
I dont wish to step on any toes, but this is a big event in my life and i am proud to share it.

On friday night it was getting dark, and i would be heading in soon, and after much consideration i decided to take a doe since 6 bucks had been taken in the near area and no does. So i picked one out, a large doe w/o fawns. She was 50yds away and gave me a broadside shot, so i picked up my shotgun and the rest is history. It put a $.25 size hole through both lungs, and she ran just under 100yds and collapsed. It was quick and clean as it always should be.

On sat night, at 5:15PM i decided to leave my fathers shack wich i was hunting out of for the night (we traded shacks for the day) and walk up the large hill that was 200 yds west of me. I took my time and when i reached the top of the hill slowly peaked over. *this location is where my first hunting shack was, but we moved it 3 years ago. There is a 20yd piece of woods at the top of the hill and then our hay field starts. The buck was on the edge of the hayfield about 22 yds out. My muzzleloader i was using is sited in for 150yds, but at this range and with the time i had there was no time to think, so i threw the gun up and fired. The bullet went through both lungs and the buck ran 40yds out into the field (west), and dropped. Quick and clean.

Theese are some pics of my doe. She aged 3years old. Mine is on the left, my cousins is on the right, he ended up shooting one the same night.

and this is my 6pt

I have some great pics of the entrance and exit wound on the doe but thought them too graphic for this thread, if there is an interest to see them i will post them too. Thanks for reading and feel free to share some stories.

Thanks for the kind words. I used a PE Native for food prep in the blind, carving up an apple and the likes. For dressing i used my Moran DP and a Wyoming knife. They did an excellent job, and make a great pair. I also had my D'Allara on hand, if the need for heavy cutting came up.

Well Spydutch the pictures clearly show gutted deer. It shows that these deer are been prepared as food.
If you think about it, what would you prefer?

Option A: You get born and taken away from mum, get feed with a special tasteless high proteïn mixture so you grow very fast. Your life is beeing in a little cage so you can not move and waist energy. After growing big in a rapid pace you are put in a big truck and transported over hundreds of miles. Then in a slaughterhouse filled with the screams of frightened and dying animals you are driven with a stick into a small cage and electrocuted at juvenile age.

Option B: You are born in free nature and grow up with a loving mother and your brothers and sisters. You grow up playing around having all the fun in the world and running around and playing in the woods.
After growing up you meet a beautifull girl and you make baby's with her and you father a flock of children.
Then one day after a few years living in a quit forest you hear a sound , you turn your head to see what it is and........
(without you noticing it you where instantly killed by a bullet that struck you at 1200 km/hour)

From a humane vieuwpoint what option do you prefer?

I would go for option B
It's better to be judged by 12 than to be carried by 6

Congrats on the successful hunt IL.

Besides enjoying your photos and wishing it were me, can you give a bit more detail on the Moran DP handling the dressing chores. Thanks.

Spydutch, I dont want to get the impression that i hunt just for the fun of it, it that is what you think i am sorry. I eat whatever i kill, and if you take a logical approach, if some deer wernt harvested most would starve or be hit by cars. I assure you that though i enjoy hunting, it is my main source of food. I eat venison 4-5 times a week. Hope that clarifies it some. Hunting is part of me. Its in my work, my free time, and it may be part of my career. I just got the necessary packet to become a certified hunters saftey instructor, and i teach at Ted Nugents Kamp for Kids durring the summer. I strongly believe it the right to hunt, but i bear strong resentment to thoose who wont eat what they kill.
Sorry for any misunderstanding.

Well the wyoming knife is used as a gut hook of sorts and after the deer were opened up, out came the moran. it was mainly used to remove the organs, and cut the membranes that held them in place. Also took out the tenderloins. In one word... Perfect. It cut like a lazer and has the ideal ergos that allow for fast but accurate cutting and to top it off its quite the looker. In truth the act only took a few minutes. We dont butcher our own meat yet, so far it is taken to a processor where i have lots of jerkey, sausage, hamburger, steaks, and chops on the way. For the price i paid the moran is the best :spyder: bargin i have found thus far. I paid $11 for it.
Well worht the $90 the store origionally sold it for.
Thanks for reading all

Any idea on how much meat you got? Also, do you have the meat prepared in different ways(ground, sausages,etc,..)?

Buddy of mine got his buck on his first day and used his Delica for the whole job. Said it worked great.Left his sheath knife at the camp because he figured he'd never get one on his first day; said he was more or less scouting for a good stand.Hunt anything else?

Good hunt Irish! You don't find the folders harder to clean up than fixed blades when all done? I hope you make some of that Venison jerky peppered flavored, yum-yum.

Flipe8,
I have dressed a deer w/ my FRN CE Delica before, and it did a fine job. The only reason i have switched is because my father now carries that delica. I hunt Ring Necks, Coyotes, Rabbits when i can, and Geese. I ocasionaly go for squirrell and crow, and would love to go for a black bear sometime.

Sorry Texas no can do on the pepper falvor. Its just a straight smoked falvor, it may not sound like much but it is made the more traditional style so it tastes perfect. I wouldnt change it for the world. Same goes for the sausage.

Congratulations on the successful hunt IL and thanks for the story and pics.
First they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not stand up, because I was not a Trade Unionist.
