How about a delica/caly jr. sized R2?
I love my R2, but it's too big to carry to the office. I know I will get in trouble if someone sees it.
I wear it every weekend when I can carry whatever I want.
I absolutely LOVE the grippy-ness of the cut outs, the flat grind of the blade & the screwed together handles.

Sal,
Please consider our request. If you do a sprint run of 600 plain edge pieces with VG-10, 65 pieces will go to the collector’s club who receives variations, and I’ll take a minimum 5 pieces. That will leave 530 uncommitted pieces. Everyone else can chime in and state their claim in this thread. Thank you for your consideration.

First problem is, you're talking what amounts to a totally new knife. The cost of the design and tooling for something like that could never be recouped on a Sprint Run. Then theres the question of "bio-mechanical" feasibility, just like 80mm was the smallest they could go with the smaller Manix and still retain a proper grip, there is no guarantee the R2 would "feel" right if scaled down to Calypso Jr size.
Might be better to attack the problem from the opposite direction - an almite handled Caly Jr would require much fewer "new" parts. But, if they're considering a new version of the Caly Jr, I'd prefer bolster and scales myself. :D

I would like to see the Caly Jr. in the clothes of anniversary Delica, including the spyder damascus bolster from Ed Schempp. But to be honest I would not be able to afford that one. :oThe Deacon wrote:... But if you remember the Deacon design a friend of ours showed us once, that would be fine also. (Simillar bolster/scale as for.ex. micarta Kopa)

I know nothing of how the knives are tooled & designed
I know nothing of how the knives are tooled & designed, but why couldn't any or all of the existing metal handled knives just add the step of laser cutting or drilling holes in the handle slabs, before asembling the knife.
As long as the holes don't intersect the assembly pins/screws, why would any design changes be needed internally?

Well, in the case you describe here, no design changes would be needed. However, your initial post seemed to be a request for a scaled down R2, not a skeletonized Delica. And that would require completely new tooling. Plus, you specifically mentioned screw construction and full flat grind as reasons you like the R2, and I can't think of any metal handled knives in the 2.75"~3" range that have either, muchless both, of those features. Then again, perhaps the Adventura would work for you.uncleknife wrote:I know nothing of how the knives are tooled & designed, but why couldn't any or all of the existing metal handled knives just add the step of laser cutting or drilling holes in the handle slabs, before asembling the knife.
