I am the happy and proud owner of seven Spydies all in 15v. Unfortunately Spyderco is not making anything else in 15v.
So I would love to see a Native 5 in Magnamax, with FRN lightweight scales. But the new function change would be the axis lock instead on the spine release. I also would like a thinner blade 2.0 MM thick so it would be real slicey. I guess it would have to be named native 6.
Who else would like to see this knife in production?
Come on Sal, this would be a big winner.
Thanks
Charlie
Welcome to the forum. I always enjoy these threads. For someone who likes to daydream, it is fun.
I'm not sure how much involvement Spyderco will have with any production knives featuring a crossbar/axis lock, as there is a bit of 'IP space' between Benchmade and Spyderco and that probably feels comfortable to both brands.
A medium Native w/ a Triad Lock would probably be the one, if such a thing could ever exist. Second to that might be the same knife but with a newly designed compression lock that has a wider/longer closing bias. How that integrates with a detent, I have no idea...which is why it is still a dream haha.
At this point, steel is sort of secondary for me, as long as it responds pretty well to sharpening.
I think a Spyderco interpretation of the Full Metal Atlas would be quite something. No-choil, neutral ergos, low geometry, yet solid and feels like it would last a lifetime.
Spyderco did make the Sage 3 with a Blackie Collins Bolt Action Lock. Not exactly what you're asking for but it's the closest that Spyderco have made to it.

…and I remember getting to see one at the SFO when one of the guys had it in his pocket at the time. Absolutely magnificent knife, and I liked the bolt action lock more than the CBBL. The 3 is one of those that you grab instantly if you ever happen upon one.
I, too am a big fan of the bolt action lock. IMHO much superior to the axis lock. Less spring tension to release than the CBBL, too. Inflation has more or less stopped most Spyderco purchases of late, but Spydercos with a bolt action would definitely cause me to reverse that trend.

Yes. A Manix 2 or XL with the bolt lock would be an upgrade over the CBBL, for 3 reasons. One, less tension (a common complaint, and a valid one IMO). Two, the bolt action mechanism not protruding outside from the flat of the knife(EDIT: not true, they do protrude out from the sides, but metal which still makes it less susceptible to damage). And three, no plastic bits to worry about cracking and breaking. Technically a fourth as well, in that the bolt lock I think is stronger than the CBBL beacuse it doesn’t rely on just those two little screws at the front of a CBBL locking block to keep it all together. If those screws get loose or shear, the CBBL lock comes apart. Since these knives are not designed for constant stresses that would kill a CBBL I’m not holding it against the knife, but if all things are equal I’m taking the stronger knife.
Wish they would put the bolt lock in more models.

I am waiting for the Magnamax Native too, but don't want any changes to it.
And for the 15V Chief. Then I should be good for a while.
Same boat as you. I don't have a G-10 Native 5, it's the main knife I am looking at next. With a Native 5 in MagnaMax I will get the knife I want in a new steel to try, win win. Maybe with some luck it will be dark green G10 that has been mention a lot.

I always appreciate when folks muse about knives and share their "dream" ones!
What I like in yours is the 2mm bladestock and that you went with FRN.
But with all due respect: Axxis lock instead of backlock would be an extreme downgrade for me personally.
Imo the backlock is the best and most versatile locktype anyway, and the one the Native family features is an especially well executed on top of that.
While the Axxis lock is just not for me. Along the lines of @8th_Note: An axxis lock folder is the only one that actually opened in my pocket (twice) and cut me (despite pretty tight action) and omega springs also broke twice on me. I also just don´t like the kind of supersoft operation, much prefer the way a CBBL feels in that regard..
Top three going by pocket-time (update October 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endela SE (VG10), Manix 2 LW (REX45)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1)

One more reason for the bolt action is that it is more compatible with slimmer or less tall blades than tall leaf blades like those on Manix type knives. My Gerber bolt action fillet is a prime example of this.

I'm glad YOU said that instead of me .
exnhea on the thinsneh .
If you find you can't log on for a day you'll know why .
You might call the **** lock by another name ; "crossbar lock" etc. . . . unless your ship has fantastically good shields and armor .
Just saying .
OOOOOH LOOOKOUT !
DUCK !
