Trouble getting on the forum
For the last four days I have had difficulty getting on the forum. For two days I couldn't access it at all. The little wheel just kept spinning. Yesterday I got on without issue, and today, I got on, but it took seven minutes and the wheel is still spinning. It is 8:15 am in CO right now. Of course, I am on the other side of the world.

Yes, it's been that way for a few days. I stay up really late because I am not working right now. I am a night owl.
Can't get on the forum late or early in the morning.
I thought maybe it was something new, you know, shut the forum down at night. Or Spyderco was telling me to go to bed!!!

Sorry everyone. We've been fighting it all week. Unfortunately, the bots are back with a vengeance. We're currently fighting off over 17K bots attempting to crawl the forum. We're working on it and hope to have it resolved again soon.
Hang in there with us!

This is a knife manufacturer’s forum. Why the attacks? Who could be responsible? Benchmade? Kershaw? Microtech?

Re: Trouble getting on the forum
Kristi,
We've never met. I've never been to SFO and I am not an IT consultant in any capacity.
I think some bots are collecting posted information on the forums and other bots are mapping systems and networks - looking for ways to disrupt the enterprise.
Since I posted the last article about bots attacking systems I've been checking into firewalls that block by ASN. I was looking at a Fortinet solution, but there are several other vendors. I just want to keep my non commercial systems safe. ASN blocking may not be the only solution. The best commercial solutions from Crowdstrike look interesting.
My Cisco Meraki system blocks by country and hypothetically filters on topics. That I know of, Meraki does not block by ASN so I am looking at other vendors.
I have not read any books or taken any courses on setting up commercial grade firewalls, my background in firewalls is based on OpenBSD pf firewalls from many years ago. I never set it up for any organization so I cannot say how well it works or if it blocks by ASN.
When last employed as a system administrator, vendors were always more than willing to do a presentation or chat with me regarding their solutions. I poured over the paperwork. There were only so many hours in a day, but the sales and technical pitches were always FREE. I used them to develop my acumen and depth on certain subjects.
Always ask for proof that the explicit solutions work, are in use, and that they are not just white papers.
If I was asked to get involved I don't think that I would use one vendors solutions, I'd have layers of solutions. Too many vendors are being hacked, have CVEs on their hardware / software, and a layered approach with 2 to 3 vendors might be the way to keep the bad guys off the property.

There seems to be some lingering issues in Safari and Firefox. We're working on it and hope to have it resolved soon.kennethsime wrote: ↑Mon Feb 23, 2026 10:48 amI can get on via my iphone, but not MacBook Pro or iPad.

Brave isn’t working either. For over 18 hours.
