Wel in all honesty except for new Manix variations this is the model i am looking forward to the most. I love Ed's designs and it beeing a budget folder in these crazy expensive times really makes me happy.
I am sure what also makes you happy are full (not nested) liners, G10, and not too light weight, right my friend? ;)

Actually I am looking forward too to as an exception having a single alternative to my usual lighter FRN Spydies again!

(Also: The exposed liners mean that it is easier to make diy custom scales)
You hit the nail on the head there friend! :winking-tongue
No one will ever see me buying a Charisma that's for sure. :rofl

I - FRN and LW guy - have to admit: G10, solid liners and a bit more heft do fit this particular model perfectly!

From all I can say now already the Retract could very well be one of the few Spydies I´ll actually prefer in that configuration (and not lighter and with FRN scales).

I am looking more and more forward to this (on top really affordable) knife the more it gets discussed!
Hope we´ll soon share our first impressions here! :clinking-mugs
Top three going by pocket-time (update October 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endela SE (VG10), Manix 2 LW (REX45)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1)

I'm interested to see how well fit and finished the production models turn out to be.
It will also be very interesting to compare the f&f with that of the Byrd Gooney.

This linerlock debate is kind of odd to me. Liner/frame locks are the most common knife lock by a massive margin. I’m sure somebody out there has bitten themselves closing it but I can’t recall hearing about it. I’ve never had any issue. Does it need to be brought up in every thread where a knife has a liner lock?

I get some people don’t like liner locks. I was in that camp for a long time and eventually bought some and while I think it’s a BORING lock mechanism there are reasons it’s the #1 lock on the planet. Cost is among those reasons of course, but it’s also simple, reliable, easy to get right, and plays well with flipper designs.
Whilst I largely agree, there is demonstrable scope for poor (& hazardous) action in an inadequately executed liner lock. I just don’t trust and won’t keep liner locking knives that snap shut like a guillotine (looking at you, Pattada) or fly open under very slight movement (yep, you, Hundred Pacer).

I wonder if that is an error. BladeHQ has it for pre-order. It was just announced, it would be odd if it arrives before Chinese knives from the previous reveal. But maybe there using a different factory or it was easy to get going.

Tried and think I could have ordered one (did not proceed to the final steps though)... since I am in Europe and with all the customs/tariff hazzles I'll actually wait till it hits local dealers

Do you trust BladeHQ more than Spyderco about the availability of their own products?

This is not out of the ordinary. These reveals have never been perfect. There are numerous models from previous reveals that still haven't been released. We're on reveal 20 and there are knives going back to reveal 17 that haven't been released yet.

My point is this is business as usual, not an error.

I definitely trust BladeHQ to run an ecommerce site more than Spyderco. But I was just saying it's odd. I guess there's only one way to find out, someone has to order one.

I just love the blade design on these, it's like a smaller version of my Ed Schempp Rock that I was so lucky to score one of.

This one just is a folder, which is really cool. I just don't care for the linerlocks, and this is where I am stuck on this killer looking knife. Well, that and the fact it's only a 3" edge. If it was a 4" or 5", even a linerlock; I would have already had two of them lol...

This blade design of the Schempp is a freaking cutting and when longer a great chopper blade. You guys getting them will most certainly love the blade design.

Wartstein, many of us are Americans, and we are accustomed to our news media editing quotes to make them sound however the media wants them to sound. So for us, editing's allowed. Can't speak for Austria. Maybe you have more honest media than we do. (That wouldn't be too difficult.)

:grin-sweat I get your joke: You did exactly what I criticized and quoted me deliberately so that it sounds like the exact opposite of what I said... ;)

Look, what I said was that to me it is a "myth that linerlocks are always and inevitably unsafe for the fingers" (viewtopic.php?p=1868996#p1868996),this then was deliberately shortened so that it said the exact opposite plus on top of it came an explicit reply as if this opposite was what I said (viewtopic.php?p=1869009#p1869009)

Not a big deal, but imo also just not how people usually communicate on this forum.

WHAT we pretty much all do: Shorten texts when we quote so that the irrelevant parts don´t take away space, but what we are referring to is still there in the sense the person we quote actually meant it.
I´d say: Let´s continue to be better on this forum than the news media sometimes are... ;)

.. And focus on the Retract again...

Thats the thing... you think you're just removing "irrelevant parts" of posts but you're actually just cherrypicking the sentences that you want to respond to. Effectively changing the meaning of what was said. We're not writing news headlines here - context matters! Genuine question - Why do you get to decide which parts of someone else’s post are “relevant” and which aren’t? Especially now, considering how the forum automatically shortens quotes to save space.

This "myth" about linerlocks that you insist on bringing up in every discussion about linerlocks is made up nonsense that only you ever talk about! You keep arguing against something that no one is making an argument for. It’s like me constantly trying to convince people that the “myth” that Austria has no mountains is false. When in reality, no one believes that in the first place except me when I see someone talking about mountains in Austria on this forum.

______

The Retract is "sold out" on Spyderco's website. Could just be the first round of inventory listed that sold out and more will be added soon. I do not believe they add their entire inventory on at once.

It’s time to put a stop to all this. This thread was meant to be about the Retract, in fact I was expecting comments from those who are hyped for this interesting model or at least are interested in it. Move your little “war” somewhere else please. Enough said.
