Can confirm, in spite of my not being a troll on the youtubes..RugerNurse wrote: ↑Sun Feb 01, 2026 3:45 pmNice to hear. I read a comment on YouTube that it was stuff action and the compression lock prevented it from closing or something weird. Can’t always trust the trolls in the comments.
When fully depressed, the lock bar on my PM2LW (BD1N) doesn't allow enough room for the detent ball to completely clear the blade tang. There is a detent ball ramp & track which helps, but the detent ball is consistently applying (slight) pressure against the blade throughout the closing arc. With a little bit of inertia (and a drop of lube to overcome some initial grittiness), closing action is quite smooth, however it is definitely not "drop-shut" like with standard PM2s. Whether or not this is an "issue" is up for debate.. i suppose the "fidget crowd" may think so; I personally am less bothered by it than the not insignificant amount of lock-stick on my example. Fortunately, this seems to be breaking in ok..
Some other thoughts/observations:
-The above is based on a sample size of one. I have no idea if it applies to the whole run or just individual knives throughout the run (though it appears there may be at least two, now that I am corroborating the tall tales of a youtubist..)
-Centering is.. adequate. Favoring the show side, definitely not perfect. No rubbing anywhere. Acceptable, not ideal.
-Lock stick: definitely there ootb. Does seem to be breaking in ok.
-F&F is good. Knife is well-put-together. Grinds are nice, even.. blade was super sharp ootb. Nice.
-Does feel more rigid/sturdy than the P3LW. Nice.
-Overall: Nice.

I might be one of a few but I love FRN and Para2 lightweight is extremely tempting. Makes me very happy to see this one coming into production. CTS BD1N is a steel I am very interested in as well, so this combination is just sweet. Hopefully we might see more handle colours as well? Desert tan or Racing green would be instant buy for me.

My main carry is a PM2 Salt and the LW version is not blocky feeling, so you should be gtg.Coastal wrote: ↑Mon Feb 02, 2026 8:52 amI'm anxious to hear reports from people who already have and use the OG PM2. Re: New PM2 FRN
I've grown more fond of FRN the past few years myself, but I really think that's because of all the price increases and FRN models being much cheaper. "Forced" myself to like it and come to find out that I genuinely have come around to it and enjoy it. Excited for the 15V version since I no longer have any 15V nor do I have any kind of PM2! Sounds like a winner in my book.PaloArt wrote: ↑Mon Feb 02, 2026 12:12 pmI might be one of a few but I love FRN and Para2 lightweight is extremely tempting. If they re-released the G10 version and the FRN version at the same time and they were the same price, I imagine that most would want the G10. Still, I’m not complaining since I wasn’t around when the G10 version was released, so I was excited when I saw the 15V LW variant announced - how cool of Spyderco to do that.TkoK83Spy wrote: ↑Mon Feb 02, 2026 12:40 pmI've grown more fond of FRN the past few years myself, but I really think that's because of all the price increases and FRN models being much cheaper. Some initial reports had people trying a LW BD1-N blade in a G10 handle with success.
Also mentioned it in the other thread, but I heard that they are currently building out the 15V and are just waiting for enough inventory to ship out to dealers.

Hopefully not TOO soon. Lost control of my truck on the ice a couple weeks ago and just clipped a guardrail. $2,200 estimate

Sorry to hear Rick!
I learned to drive a little Datsun manual trans off road and in the snow when I was 13. Drove in it until I moved south when I was 50. Snow is one thing but ice is completely different. Not much you can do when you start sliding except throw it in neutral and hope it stops before you hit something
Of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most!
Re: New PM2 FRN
Thankfully it was just me, im good. Was going around 25mph I'd say when it happened. Just stinks because I've taken this same way to work for 17 years now! Many of those years working 6 days a week. So I've taken this turn MANY times. I even let off going into it, because I know it gets slick. I started to turn the wheel but the truck had other ideas! Like Pat said, nothing you can really do about ice unfortunately.

Re: New PM2 FRN
So...... after carrying this FRCP handled blade for the last 3 days, I've kind of changed my mind a bit. I've tossed it casually on the bench, dropped it on the concrete floor, spilled laquer thinner on it and managed to get stripper on it. The knife works well and cleaned up well with no visual signs of any mishap/s. It's smooth to open and close. It has a very snappy detent, which I really like. I'm finding I kind of like the lighter weight. I really like the wire clip.... easy on the pocket. If FRN is better than this, I'll purchase one and see how I like it.

Oh man, sorry for you, but still good it is "just" the truck that got "hurt".
Like you I´ve been driving a ton in such conditions for many years, but ice still can be pretty unpredictable (even more so on steep mountain roads...).

Re: New PM2 FRN
I’m carrying my Para 3 LW this week in anticipation. I’ve been carrying the Millie 2 a lot lately, and while the Para 3 is a lot smaller, it’s basically the same knife. I appreciate the chamfered edges quite a bit, the bi-directional texturing, as well as the light weight.
The PM2LW will be a killer knife. I’d love a green one in cruwear or s90v, but I might just have to jump on the 15V.

I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Hi, I am obviously one silly person - I could have bought UK PK Spy27 G10 for the same price as FRN and I still went with FRN, perhaps I should go and see some specialistRed Leader wrote: ↑Mon Feb 02, 2026 1:20 pmIf they re-released the G10 version and the FRN version at the same time and they were the same price, I imagine that most would want the G10. Re: New PM2 FRN
That is one valid point! I remember my second proper Spyderco being Gen4 Endura in Grey FRN, 2010 approximately? I loved the FRN and it felt to me like NASA material compared to my first Spyderco, Tenacious G10, that I bought in 2008. I still recall how fascinated I was and how I cherished that knife. FRN still has special place in my heart and I have to say most of my Spyderco knives are FRN with few G10 and one in CF (PPT S90V). To be honest, I do not carry my G10 knives as often as FRN handled ones. Yet again, I might be crazy...TkoK83Spy wrote: ↑Mon Feb 02, 2026 12:40 pmI've grown more fond of FRN the past few years myself, but I really think that's because of all the price increases and FRN models being much cheaper. Nice to see this finally come to fruition. Hope to see a salt/magnacut edition in the future.
It rains rust in Hawaii.

I'm not interested at all, but I think it will be a bestseller as a more affordable option. It will probably get a whole range of steels and colours over the next few years, like the Para 3 LW.
