Spyderco Serrations later.

I just got my Serrated Bodacious and it is a perfect model for serrations.

Does anyone know of a service where I can pay to get Spyderco Serrations on a knife?

Thinking of getting another SPY27 Bodacious and adding serrations if possible.

I went down this rabbit hole and my conclusion was that the money is better spent on a production SE knife. The end results weren't to my liking.

I asked Sal about this personally.

He said not possible (as a factory service, at least), due to the way the blanks are finished - different process for each SE and PE. Not to mention the dual edge put on a PE blade that would have to be overcome to get the chisel grind serrations on there.

Serrations can be cut with round diamond files. There’s a trick to it.

I can’t imagine a serration service to be a good business opportunity. Super niche.

Has anyone tried Tom Veff's work those serrations look nasty. Wonder if they are any good? Ordered a CRKT to see what it's all about before bothering him.

I may have to do this on one of my folders (at least one or two scallops) for a particular reason (guess I'll start a thread about this).

Ok, so I haven’t actually done this (but was given this tip by a knife maker) but if you’re just doing identical sized scallops (like most bread knives) you need a round file and a brass or aluminum rod of the same diameter. You zip tie them together.

Then you cut the first scallop, then lay the rod in the scallop and use it to set the spacing for the 2nd scallop. And just keep going until you’re done.

I learned it from David Mary over on blade forums. I'm a maker there as well. If ur in Canada you can contact him. I'm in California and would be willing to do it for you, but again, these are not Spyderco serrations. I'll post a pic of what I mean so you can see if ur interested.

I think I did 3/16 spacing.

Another thing to note and I believe was mentioned is that all the blades I put serrations on I regrind first. To thin the edge. The serrations cut very well. Partly due to thin geometry and they don't snag because they are so shallow

That makes sense. Did you do symmetric serrations or one sided like Spyderco does? (well, like all manufacturers do)

They are chisel ground edge. But I put them on the right side instead of the left

I don't have the knife any more but the other side is flat same as a serrated factory Spyderco would be. Just opposite. I wanted to try the serrations on the "right side"

Yea I like how it cuts better as a right hander. Maybe preference tho
