I would really like a satin MagnaCut Shaman if you get some Sal. Is that possible or is the current DLC version the only one you're going to make?

Re: Oddball blade steels
I imagine that Niagara is rolling like crazy to ship to all of their customers at the same time. That would probably be a fair way to do it.
Hey Synov,
Eric and his crew have to decide what to make, and when to make it. Can we make it? Do we have the steel, etc. etc. Where will it fit in, etc. I watch the forums for input and share demand and requests. We do try to listen to our customers. Because we make and will make many models, the possible combinations is beyond the possibility to make them all. Our Distributors and dealers are also on top of the best combinations that you may want. LMNO steel, ABC lock, XYS handle.
I expect we'll be using a lot of MagnaCut and MagnaMax. Larrin has created some very special blade steels that we get the opportunity for Real world testing. Larrin did not just add more salt and garlic, he actually got into the alloys and found a better way to balance them for better performance in the world of Blade steel.
So there is a good possibility that your combination is possible.

Re: Oddball blade steels
I'm definitely a buyer on that.
Re: Oddball blade steels
I guess I lied about Erasteel MagnaCut. We did receive a a small amount a short time ago. My bad. Sorry. Testing is currently going on and it's all positive. Thanx Larrin.

We're getting ready to open Shot Show tomorrow, so it will be interesting to see what happens.
Now all we need is a ton of MagnaMax.

Excited to see what color scales you plan to pair with it. Maybe a very deep hunter green.
Endura AUS-8, Manix 2 S30V, Manix 2 LW MagnaCut, BBB 15V Manix 2, BBB 15V Para 3 LW, Alcyone BD1N, PM2 Micarta Cruwear, Native 5 Maxamet (2nd), Para 3 Maxamet (2nd), Magnacut Mule, Z-Wear Mule, REC Para 3 10V, Pacific Salt SE H2, Dragon Fly SE H2, Chaparral SE XHP, Shaman Burlap S90V, Bodacious SPY27, Manix 2 LW 15v, Sage 5 REX-121 LW.

Re: Oddball blade steels
MagnaMax is the new S90V, so I think you need the new CF to go with it: Dark Matter Fat Carbon.

Re: Oddball blade steels
It would have to be a color that could be adaped to a variy of materials?
G-10
Carbon Fiber
FRN
Micarta
Steel
Titanium
Unobtanium
Vivian
Evilester
Actually, having an exclusive color and being able to maintain that across the board would be an interesting discipline. A good way to Honor Larrin in the knife industry. Almost like an inside secret?

A super bright Ferrari/Maserati red. Yes, I know the trainers, I know the St. Nicks stuff, but I'm talking BRIGHT.
Magnamax is flashy stuff.

Re: Oddball blade steels
Hello gentleman,
This thread is amazing. I'm still learning and I'm fully aware that Spyderco listens.
Just an idea: If you're building a series,
WHITE
offers the most consistent, eye-catching discipline across models.
I could be wrong.
Here to support.

Re: Oddball blade steels
I think white is the only color you haven't used much which is also easy to get in a variety of materials. But it's kind of boring. How about gold?sal wrote: ↑Mon Jan 19, 2026 9:26 pmIt would have to be a color that could be adaped to a variy of materials?

Re: Oddball blade steels
Just out of curiosity - how much let's say MagnaCut does Spyderco utilize over a whole year? 100's kilos? Tons? More?
As for color scheme for MagnaMax, maybe some dark purple? There is purple CF and all the other synthetics should be available in it as well

Re: Oddball blade steels
anthracite grey
Re: Oddball blade steels
Maroon. I cannot think of another sprint that ran through all the models using maroon. PD1 used a burgundy. Most other colors either have been used or are saved for an exclusive.
Or since MagnaMax is similar to K390 but stainless, you could use the lighter blue used for Seki K390 series.
