Re: What motorcycle(s) or car(s) do you have, or have you owned?
I thought motorcycles and autos would be a hot topic on Spyderco Forums? Everyone walks or takes the bus now???
Prices for new cars and supersport motorcycles are insane.
I looked into buying a Toyota Tundra or Tacoma but I never haul anything so I opted for the 4Runner. There are a number of Toyota vehicles that cross over the 250,000 mile mark and I wanted one. The Tundra was the most likely to cross over the 250,000 mile mark, but given that I never haul anything it would be a waste right now.
I've been driving a Camry since 2019 but just wanted something a little bigger and a bit safer. The plan is to throw my groceries and martial arts gear in the back.
I'd buy a supersport motorcycle but I think those days are over. I look at the write ups and the manufacturers websites on the Yamaha R1M but I think that at 65 I have better ways to transport myself.
A sports car right now is also out of the question. Going to try and get a job at my new location (moving 01/2026) and throwing money at transportation that will not get me from point A to point B safely and not wasting a lot of money seemed like a good idea.

I was with a guy at a rave in San Francisco and somebody stole his Ducati while he was at the party. I would never leave a Ducati parked outside in the evening, but he did.

Not really, just MOST normal people just think of cars as transportation and are not into cars etc as a hobby.Naperville wrote: ↑Mon Dec 22, 2025 10:14 pm

That is what they are you know, transportation. Most mature out it the car thing at around 12 to 15 years old.
Not everyone is Jay Leno who can afford to entertain their childhood fantasies in adulthood.

I'd buy a Yamaha R1M but waking up as a quad or not waking up is a scary thought. I have all of my body parts somehow and want to keep them. You cannot ride a motorcycle casually. A garbage truck or a lil ole lady on her way to get some grapes will ruin your day.

When I lived in Chicago I took the bus and elevated train. It can be very handy. You just have to be careful and watch people, because you never know what they might do.Ankerson wrote: ↑Tue Dec 23, 2025 11:00 amI view cars as an expense.Naperville wrote: ↑Tue Dec 23, 2025 10:56 amYep, I suppose so.Ankerson wrote: ↑Tue Dec 23, 2025 10:18 amNot really, just MOST normal people just think of cars as transportation and are not into cars etc as a hobby.Naperville wrote: ↑Mon Dec 22, 2025 10:14 pm

Motorcycles are the original Stealth technology. When you throw your leg over that machine, you become invisible. The only drivers that can see you are the ones who WANT to kill you.

Very envious, but in a good way. I never owned a muscle car, but I spent thousands of hours reading about them and going to Drive-In meets and seeing them. Listening to them. Smelling the high octane gasoline burning off the tailpipes.

Hard to say, every brand i know of have produced both legends and lemons.. Generally speaking, "The big four" from Japan are the most reliable, and among them (in my personal experience and opinion) i'd rate themNaperville wrote: ↑Wed Dec 24, 2025 6:40 amWow! A ton of motorcycling memories.

Honda
Yamaha
Kawasaki
Suzuki
The Italians are (also generally speaking) quirky, very nice bikes, often combining the best of the best components-wise
I love my Guzzi because it has tons of character and charm and is still built at Mandello del Lario by lake Como since 1921. It is not the fastest, flashiest by a long shot, but it reminds my of how motorcycles used to feel, before acres of plastic and electronic everything :)
The Hypermotard, being the O.G. 1100 has no electronic aids whatsoever either. No ABS, no traction control, no riding modes, nothing.
EDIT: Here's La Bella from Mandello :)

The one I wish I still had...or held onto for a while longer was the '70 Hemi 'Cuda. It was a rare color (Limelight) and only 652 were equipped with a manuel transmission. Re: What motorcycle(s) or car(s) do you have, or have you owned?
I did love my wife but my marriage was just OK, nothing to write home about and the wife left when I shut down my web hosting business. She was not my soulmate, but a very good friend to me. It wasn't perfect. I had 6 or 7 courses to go on my bachelors degree, said that I was going back to college to get my degree so that I could get a decent job, and then head to Silicon Valley. She threatened divorce. I said, OK. She filed for divorce while I was at school and I went to Silicon Valley after graduation.silver & black wrote: ↑Wed Dec 24, 2025 10:47 amThe one I wish I still had...or held onto for a while longer was the '70 Hemi 'Cuda. It was a rare color (Limelight) and only 652 were equipped with a manuel transmission. I sold it to get marriedNaperville wrote: ↑Wed Dec 24, 2025 6:50 amMopar is great! That list is like the Who's Who of muscle cars.silver & black wrote: ↑Wed Dec 24, 2025 6:12 amIn my younger days I was a muscle car nut. I was and always will be a MOPAR guy. I like the other makes also.
I have owned :
1968 Dart GTS 340. 4 sp.
1969 Road Runner 440. 4 sp.
1969 Charger RT 440. auto.
1970 Duster 340. auto
1970 Challenger 340 4 sp.
1970 Challenger 440. 4 sp.
1970 Cuda 340. 4 sp.
1970 Cuda 440 Six Pack. 4 sp.
1970 Cuda 426 Hemi. 4 sp.
1971 Challenger 383. auto.
1971 Cuda 383 auto.
I had a few other Fords and Chevies that I just fixed up and sold.
I drag raced a '70 'Cuda with a 340 for a few years. It ran 11.30's in the SS division.
Very envious, but in a good way. I never owned a muscle car, but I spent thousands of hours reading about them and going to Drive-In meets and seeing them. Listening to them. Smelling the high octane gasoline burning off the tailpipes.
Can you have a favorite in a list like that? They are all special!. Now, divorced and no car. It's a cruel world...lol.
That manual Limelight '70 Hemi 'Cuda might be worth $250,000 right now. Every one of your Mopars might be well over $100,000 each. Mopar was making excellent cars.

Re: What motorcycle(s) or car(s) do you have, or have you owned?
Kia is a very popular brand in the US too. I think one of my neighbors has 2 or 3 of them. They must be doing something right.Larry_Mott wrote: ↑Wed Dec 24, 2025 9:37 amNow, over to my cars list :)
