Re: Switch Gamers
I'm a big Metroid fan and have been since the 80's. I just started BOTW last year and I'm on my 5th playthrough and probably enjoy it more than any game I've played. Hopefully Prime 4 can be played on the normal switch, not sure I want to buy another console since I've only had it for 2 years.
I do hope they do more remakes of the older Metroid games!

Prime Remastered is great if you haven't played it. I love the inclusion of twin stick controls. Much easier than trying to tweak the controls to that setup through dolphin like I tried in the 2010's.legOFwhat? wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 1:02 pmI'm a big Metroid fan and have been since the 80's. Hoping they release Prime 2 & 3 at some point too so I don't have to hook up a Wii to play them.
There's a ton of good metroid style games for switch. Big fan of Animal Well, Axiom Verge 1 & 2, Hollow Knight, etc.

Loved playing Hollow Knight! Also having fun with Metroid Prime Remastered. The first Prime was the best of the trilogy in me and my brothers' opinions, but I would like to see the others remastered as well, although I'm not sure how likely it is.
Also I was very happy to see them release Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door on Switch. I consider that one of the best games ever made. Unfortunately I wasn't particularly happy with some of the aesthetic changes they decided on for the updated re-release. Me and my brothers literally spent hours getting the original game to run on Dolphin in HD with our own upscales for all of the game graphics. It was worth it.

Windscape seems like an under-the-radar indie game. Love that you're playing classics with your 4-year-old - Mario 64 and Enter the Gungeon sound like awesome co-op choices. Kids who game with their parents are totally lucky!

What by chance is the ESRB rating for the game? I'm always on the lookout for good games but I'm the kind of person who doesn't play a lot of the Teen rated titles that are out there nowadays, so that typically cuts down on my options pretty quick.vivi wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 7:51 am
Outward....wow. I don't even remember how it got brought to my attention, but I wish I learned about it sooner. It combines elements from three of my favorite games....Dark Souls style combat, Breath of the Wild style survival mechanics, and the open world with no fast travel style of Elder Scrolls: Morrowind. I'm just now getting ready to leave the starting zone and it's honestly in contention for my favorite game of all time. Great soundtrack too.

It was one of the first titles I bought when I searched the eshop years ago for something along the lines of King's Field. Didn't quite scratch that itch but it was a lot of fun to play through. I've found a lot of budget indie games I've enjoyed quite a bit.....Tangledeep, Fates of Ort, Morphite, A Robot Named Fight, Unsighted etc.

Well, that is probably why I haven't heard of it. That would be a pass for me.vivi wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 10:07 pmMScandi Grind wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 10:06 amWhat by chance is the ESRB rating for the game? Something I got on Switch very recently though is Outer Wilds, which is one of the most unique games I have ever played. It is like a mystery story in a miniature solar system. Me and my brothers actually played and beat it on X-Box originally. Because it is a mystery game, it doesn't have super great re-playability, once you know how to beat it there isn't much to do, but we have forgotten enough of it to have some fun exploring the game again on Switch. I was worried about performance, but it seems to run just about the same as it did on X-Box, which isn't perfect, but a few dropped frames every once in awhile never seems to bother the gameplay experience.

I accidentally started playing BOTW a few months ago and haven’t stopped! It’s probably been since when Ocarina of Time was new for the N64 that I’ve been this into a game. Absolutely love it, I’m having a blast. Currently have Vah Ruta and Meadoh (sp?) completed and am working on completing some side quests while searching for more koroks. I’m right at 100 shrines, have the master sword, all Link’s memories, and have run right up to the sanctum in Hyrule Castle to see the throbbing mass on the ceiling but am pacing myself and don’t want it to end! Divine Beasts first and am going to wait until the rest of the shrines are found before I go fight Ganon.legOFwhat? wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 1:02 pmI'm a big Metroid fan and have been since the 80's. Loved having the remaster and hopefully others get the same treatment. I played a rom of super metroid on an old phone so much it burned the image onto the screen.vivi wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 2:58 pmPrime Remastered is great if you haven't played it. I never really played any of the Zelda games before this, it's always been Metroid or similar games that you could finish after a couple of hours, so I've been continuously at this one for a while. Crazy amount of time consumption! I love taking games to 100% completion, but I won't do BOTW like that again. Those 900 korok seeds take forever! My SIL bought me both DLC's for it and having those extras take it to another level.Hopsbreath wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 8:14 pmI accidentally started playing BOTW a few months ago and haven’t stopped! TotK is definitely worth playing too, but I'd give yourself a little time between the two titles. They're both long but TotK has a lot of extra areas to explore vs BotW. Still cool seeing how the same areas have changed between games. Some people weren't big on them re-using the map but I thought they pulled it off well.

Re: Switch Gamers
I went back to playing Diablo 2 offline. There was a bit of farming, but I have Enigma, Infinity, CTA and other cool equipment. Currently I'm collecting keys from the bosses and will try Uber Tristram with lightning fury amazon. This girl is a total killer.

I used to only play SC online.przemekspce wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 10:39 amI went back to playing Diablo 2 offline. I switched to offline players 8 hardcore only about a year ago. Been trying to beat the game with every class. Doing one set of runs with twinked builds, then repeating with self found gear only and no using the shared stash.
It's been fun, and a lot different than SC online where I can trade etc. Haven't made any high end runewords, but this style of plays makes even low worth items like bartucs very worthwhile to find. I think I have Gul Um and a few Lems as far as my highest loose runes go, and my best item is probably a Shaftstop 211%ed with a 14res all jewel. My lightning javazon / fire bowazon hybrid currently uses it.

Re: Switch Gamers
Me and my brothers have been playing Zelda: Echos of Wisdom, and so far, I'm quite impressed! I've been playing Nintendo consoles since the Game Cube, actually before that, but I was very young, and as many gamers will tell you, a lot of the older games were much better than the majority of newer games we see these days. Most of my all time favorite games are SNES and Game Cube, but Echos of Wisdom actually feels very much like one of the good oldies with fancy graphics. Just doing normal things is fun in this game, and you get to be very creative while playing.
Ignoring any preference for a particular style of game, I think this seriously might be the best designed Switch game I have played so far. Many probably would like Breath of the Wild more, but just from a sheer game design perspective, Echos of Wisdom has been awesome. I actually have been working on making video games as a side hobby, and I really appreciate seeing all the details and ingenuity that they brought to this game.

Echoes is really good. Me and my kid were working our way through it but got distracted by Dragon Quest 3 HD. I played the absolute **** out of the NES and GBC versions.....this version is a little easier but drop dead gorgeous. We just got the boat, so the game is really opening up now.
Soul Reaver 1&2 HD and Roller Coaster Tycoon Classic are next on my list. Waiting on the physical versions. I played so much RCT1 back in the day. I remember my routine like it was yesterday....school, RCT for an hour, football practice, dinner, RCT for 5 hours, bit of sleep, repeat
Alba is another one we've been playing. Very kid oreinted game. Teaches you about different animal species, and will be a good intro to her for twin stick controls. She still struggles with them so something with no pressure or enemies is her speed.

Re: Switch Gamers
been on an fps spree.
working my way through the doom series. played through 1, 2 and 3 this year. going to try out the doom 3 expacs next, then start doom 2016 in 2026.
had mixed feelings on the reboot when I played it on ps4. I like 2 the best. 3 is my least favorite of them all for various reasons, but it was still neat playing through the entire game finally. I only ever played the first couple of hours back in the day on the original xbox.
also picked up heretic + hexen. never played them back when they were current, but I've been really enjoying them. level design is more complex in heretic than doom 1 & 2 from what I've seen. Just started the underwater episode.
also tried out the metroid prime 4 demo this week. it played great from what I saw. think I'll wait until I get the switch 2 to buy it though. already waited what, 7 years? another month or two won't hurt, especially for a single player game.
it's fun going through old fps games like these, duke nukem 3d, quake 1 & 2 etc. on console. played so much of them on PC back in the 90's they lost a lot of their challenge. using a controller fixes that!
