"I Hanker for a Hunka Cheese"

I'd almost forgotten this one, but I remember it clearly now. I think it was part of the "Schoolhouse Rock" educational series of animated shorts that aired in between Saturday morning cartoons in the mid-1970s.

Jim
Jim,

I remember that well.

Jim

Yes, I remember seeing it after school. I remember it coming on right before Looney Tunes and Popeye cartoons came on over here. That was back in the early ‘70s.

A Very Brady Sequel (1996)

I really liked the two Brady Bunch spoof movies from the '90s. They really got the perfect cast, and the characterizations were spot on, especially the girl who played Marcia Brady.

I still remember the Friday night primetime lineup in 1970 (IIRC, when I was in 1st grade): The Brady Bunch, Nanny and the Professor, and The Partridge Family.

We recently saw Herb Alpert in concert. He had a lot of video as background for his songs, and included the Teaberry Shuffle commercial. Made me feel like a kid again.

loose fit but I thought this was cool, but not cool enough to warrant a fresh topic.

special pepsi bottles from the early 90's I found while helping my parents clean out their attic.

Cool find! Thanks for sharing.

I wonder if those bottles have any collector value? Do they even still make glass soda/pop bottles anymore?

Grape Nuts Commercial (Featuring Euell Gibbons, 1972)

I'm betting that anyone who was around in the States in the early '70s remembers Euell Gibbons. He even appeared as a guest on some comedy/variety shows, spoofing himself as the guy who eats anything and everything.

Jim Grape Nuts was one of my favorite cold cereals. I had to give it up because of the carbs.

I used to like Grape Nuts too. I used to prepare them my own weird way, though. I poured milk in, let it sit in the fridge for a while, then drank the milk out of the bowl. The Grape Nuts would develop into a "cakey" texture, which I liked. Weird, I know.

I had to stop eating them when I developed a gluten sensitivity. I no longer eat anything with gluten in it.

John Oates Says Hall & Oates Will Never Perform Together Again

I agree with him 100%, and I would add that he made his point eloquently. There are FAR TOO MANY old rock and popular music stars from the 1960s, '70s, and into the '80s, who keep performing, when it's obvious they are way past their 'use by' date.

Popular music, especially rock music, is made by and for young people. And as we age we still continue to listen to our favorites.

But for the musicians and singers themselves (especially the singers) to try and maintain their personas and auras of 40, 50, or 60 years ago is embarrassing, and it tarnishes their images (IMO).

Of course, if they still want to do it, and suckers are still willing to pay to see them perform, have at it. I couldn't bring myself to do it. It's like seeing the work of any aging athlete, actor, even movie directors. At a certain point, they and their stuff only gets worse.

I recall Grace Slick, when asked if she would ever consider a comeback, answered (and I'm paraphrasing), "No. I'd never perform again. Old people trying to still do rock music just looks embarrassing."

One of the most egregious examples of a singer still performing, who should've stopped DECADES ago, is Frankie Valli. When he's onstage now, he looks like a zombie, and all he can do anymore is barely lip sync the words to old recordings of himself from 50+ years ago. He certainly cannot sing anymore. To a lot of people, he's become a meme, but one that isn't funny, IMHO. At what point is enough enough?

Jim,

There are more than a few out there that look like they passed 20 years ago.

Just saying.
