I want to show you how a friend has improved his endura. I think it's very cool!

that stop pin idea is extremely cool.

I feel the opposite about the sharpening notch.

Holy cow I totally missed the stop pin! Yes, very cool!

Such a design functions like the Triad lock. However, if you explore the Triad lock, it has a little 'give' in the hinge pin of the lock bar, allowing the front of the lock to seat how it wants to and bear the brunt of the force against the stop pin. I personally think it is a superior design and would very much like to see it make it's way into Spyderco's backlock lineup, when the time is right.

BTW love knife modding, especially when it gets past the cosmetic and more into the mechanical nature.

How does reducing the cutting edge improve on the knife?

I always wonder what shape sharpening stones people like OP's friend use. I use sharpening stones with 90 degree angled edges, and there's nothing tricky about sharpening that area for me.

I like the polished thumb hole, I did a lot of polishing on an Ouroboros and I wanted to do the inner hole too but kinda chickened out because I was worried I'd scratch up the sides of the blade. Maybe I'll try to tape it up like that and see how it goes.

Agree on the stop pin.

Interesting. Does any manufacturer do that? I wonder whether it removes the wear resistance of the lock function?

It could have been a solution to the original Siren lock instability issue.

That stop pin mod is effectively converting the Endura from a backlock to a Tri-ad Lock. Cold Steel currently owns the patent on it until late 2026.

Ah-ha! Many thanks - I didn’t know that!

There appears to be a variety of features on the Triad lock to accommodate any wear, answering my question.

I like the stop pin. 👍

How did he modify all these things but refrained from giving it a 15 dps or lower bevel (the most important functional modification for a cutting tool IMO)? 🤔
