Bone conduction
Bone conduction
Spent this year's knife budget on a set of fancy headphones. Shokz Openrun Pro 2.
Sittin' here listening to 'em as I type this. Color me impressed. And they don't interfere with my glasses like I thought they might.
@SpyderEdgeForever Where's your thread on bone conduction headphones?

Re: Bone conduction
Bone conduction headphones are great, especially if you wear hearing aids, like I do.

Re: Bone conduction
If they don't go over your ears, I think that might solve the problem with standard headphones causing hearing loss.

Re: Bone conduction
Sure, that problem is kinda solved. But osteoporosis is a dangerous side effect, bone loss is a thing

Re: Bone conduction
I use my Shokz Openrun only for running. It's great for staying aware of your surroundings when running on the road. Light weight and comfortable fit make these great for sports. Sound quality is good enough for podcasts or audiobooks, music not so much imo. When it gets windy you really need to crank up the volume....riclaw wrote: ↑Sat Nov 29, 2025 3:00 pmSpent this year's knife budget on a set of fancy headphones. Shokz Openrun Pro 2.

Interesting article, SEF. Thanks!
Paul, what charger do you use? My headset came only with a USB-C cable, no wall charger.

Re: Bone conduction
Use a charger from my Samsung phone or a charging cube (sockets and USB ports) all work fine. The headset uses a special connector, however you can buy the connector bit and put it on any USB C cable. Available at Amazon and Chinese webshops.

Nope, nothing of the sort. Wiggle the hairs in the cochlea too much and they break. It doesn’t matter how the sound waves get there.
I’m not sure I get the benefit vs AirPod type devices that offer your choice of isolation, transparency, and noice canceling. AirPods can also function as hearing aids as well.

Re: Bone conduction
This is exactly why I stopped using all head phones, both interior and exterior. A medical professional told me all such devices when used extensively can damage the hearing.zhyla wrote: ↑Tue Dec 02, 2025 9:17 pmNope, nothing of the sort. The only case in which I would use them is if necessary. Aside from that I only listen to music and videos in situations where I do not have to use ear phones.
They also minimize ability to hear dangers or requests from others.

Re: Bone conduction
I use the Air by aftershokz. Works great for maintaining situational awareness. If you put earplugs in they sound even better and protect your hearing at work. I find they're really good for podcast and decent enough for music. You lose some of the sound quality but it's still very acceptable and they're very water resistant.
