The owner has had a pharmacy license for close to 50 years so retirement or change in work load may be a reason. Hope a happy healthy retirement is the plan!!!

the website was a bit cumbersome to use but they were great on the phone

I remember learning about them 25+ years ago on the knife forums. they will be missed

Beautiful blade. What are CC numbers? I think a couple of mine have them. Can't remember where I bought them.

This is sad new, indeed. Why are they closing? Is the owner simply retiring? I hope that's the case and not finacial issues.
I think it’s a little bit of all of that. Ellisha at NGK told me they were “hit with the perfect storm of low revenue and staffing issues”.

Sad to hear that the "Pharmacy" is shutting down, brings back a lot of memories of when I started buying Spydercos. New Graham and Cutlery Shoppe where my two go-to stores.

They were so great to work with. I still miss Steve!

I hope Mike is happy about the change.

I was unaware of the pharmacy connection, but now that I know, I can't help thinking there is a clue buried somewhere in this story. One guy dabbling in two wildly different industries, which both just happen to be highly addictive... :thinking

Really sad to see this, but I know things change. Ordered many times from them (and possibly one of my first orders too), always a great experience.
Reminds me of when Howes closed.

New Graham is my local knife shop. This is so sad. Their showroom was beautiful, staff was great, and just a great overall experience.

[They are no longer receiving new shipments of Spyderco knives (sadly including my CC 087s)
I own a few of your CC 087s. Thank you for turning down the Rex 45 Manix LW, it's one of my favorites.

The pharmacy isn't closing down to my knowledge. It's a very successful local business. I wouldn't be surprised to learn it subsidized the NGKs for a time until this decision was made :neutral

As an update, NGK’s web storefront is currently up and running for a few weeks as they try to clear out more of their inventory. There’s some good deals available, I picked up a Junction for a good price yesterday.

It's so wild that something like that can happen.
We don't really have anything in this this country that qualifies as a physical knife shop, so the idea of walking into a store and find something like that is utterly unrealistic to me.

Congrats on a great find!

I grabbed the (last?) Dragonfly 2 PD1. Good deal. The search function doesn't work well so finding items is like a treasure hunt. I used to buy from them regularly many years ago. Excellent customer service.

This is the exact message they sent to me two days ago: “Unfortunately we are only going to be open through the end of the year. We’re trying to move a little inventory off the shelf before we permanently close.”

It’s sad to see another brick-and-mortar shop closing. Especially one with such a history as NGK..

Is he closing up shop because he can't make any money, or closing up shop because he doesn't want to work any more. There's a difference.

I talked to Mike face to face and it's a combination of being too busy with the pharmacy, retiring coming up sooner than later, their web platform requiring a new software that isn't working out well for them, and having trouble finding young web development engineers in the Bluefield area.

I'll check out their site to see what they've got. I know they had one last PD1 Police left when I stopped by, might snag it if I can.
