Aqua Salt LC200N

#1

Post by Doc Dan »

Are any of you interested in an Aqua Salt in LC200N? I think this is tougher than Magnacut and a little more corrosion resistant. In a knife like this, I think toughness is a desirable trait, but edge retention needs to be better than H1. Would you all like to see this?

I'd love to see this, particularly with the Aqua Salt hollow grind. I think it's unlikely though given what Sal has said about the molds being worn out.

I would be interested. I carry a plain edge H1 Aqua Salt while I'm fishing sometimes and I wouldn't say no to a little more edge retention.

If I recall correctly though, Sal has said the Aqua Salt was discontinued because the handle molds are no longer viable for production. Remaking the molds is always possible but I would question if that is something Spyderco would be willing to do. Maybe an Aqua Salt 2 could be a sufficient alternative? :thinking :respect :bug-white-red

I really like a Aqua Salt as an outdoor, do it all, knife. Like Cold Steel's SRK, it isn't perfect for everything, but it does all things well. It is a great tactical knife, too. Gimme, gimme, gimme!

I say yes! With hollow grind and spyderedge. With LC200, magnacut and also magnamax.

If making new molds is a hindrance, can Spyderco not develop an Aqua Salt 2 that is full tang with G10 scales produced in Golden?

I feel that their old reasoning that models don't change country of origin is no longer valid with the release of the Mantra 4 and Techno 3 from different countries.

I'd prefer a Temperance in Magnacut to be honest. I think Magnacut is tough enough, with much better edge stability due to the higher hardness.

But, I'm already sorted with a couple of Temps and a Waterway in LC200N.

Making new molds is not a hindrance, it’s just costly. Remaking the current Aqua Salt handle molds would basically be like investing in a brand new model all over again, except without the benefit of a new model. It would be a recommitment to a model that has run its course. I understand the appeal for models from the past but it’s okay to let Spyderco move forward!

Knives changing country of origin was never a strict rule but more of an unwritten guideline. Either way the Mantra 4 and Techno 3 are new models and they were never produced outside of their respective countries. They could make an Aqua Salt 2 anywhere they want.

I'd buy one but they won't be happening, with the aqua salt molds being worn out.

I'd be more interested in a new model, or doing a Temperance 2 in FRN & a rust proof steel.

With the deep hooks on either end of the handle I think a smooth texture like the Street Beat LW would work fine.

Abrasive handles like the Aqua Salt and Waterway are sometimes a bit much IMO.

Temp 2 with street beat style FRN handles and a hidden tang blade made out of magnacut would be quite a versatile blade.

Is there anyone who has not tried LC200N?!?!? It’s 🤩 AMAZING people 8!+<# about the edge holding but it’s tough as witches mammaries and won’t rust. (It may “stain” in extreme circumstances but just use that as a badge of honor like mud on a truck. If you can “rust” LC200N that’s a 🏆) I literally buy knives in it just for the steel and make excuses to use them.

I remember Sal’s statement about the molds . I would like to see a new Aqua design rather going to expense remaking the handle molds . Why not something refreshing and new ? MG2

How about a Jumpmaster 2 in PE LC200N? A bit bigger but not drastically so.

For small runs it would be good to make your own handles to keep costs down so we can get more releases. Re releasing desired fixed models without handles is a win win. Pre pay for the model you want and Spyderco can adjust the numbers. They can make runs in different steels of the same model too.

I would love something like the Schempp Rock Bowie in LC200N and the killer Sheath. I would put one of those in each of my trucks for just in case.

I am still trying to buy a Schempp Rock Bowie in VG10 with the black frn scales. The few I found on ebay have a price I have not convinced myself to buy yet lol...

For me, as fine as those knives are, they don't match the overall practicality and multi-usefulness of the Aqua Salt.

Keep in mind the Aqua Salt was a stick tang with the FRN handle injection molded on. Making your own handle would not be a simple or easy task. With the Mule Team, you have a full tang with a bunch of holes pre-made, so making your own handle is relatively easy. Even so, how many actually do, and how many buy scales or just cord wrap the handle? Any further runs of the Aqua Salt are going to require a total redesign or investing in new molds for a model that didn't sell well enough to justify that cost.

It wouldn't hurt my feelings if they had a skeletonized full tang on the new edition.
