PM2 salt black dlc arrived and well worth the wait, very nicely finished and the grip of the bi-directional texture is crazy.

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
My first new Spyderco in 11 months! The blacked out Lil Native LW!! Thus far, its a mixed bag.
Pros - weighs next to nothing, great ergos for my hand. From what I remember from briefly having a G10 Lil Native, the handle is slimmer and certainly the blade stock. Love this thinner grind on this model. Bevels are nice and even/consistent. I'll take this down a few degrees in a few weeks, especially since BD1N is such a pleasure to sharpen.

The cons...well really only con I can find so far, is this lockbar situation. I've had this knife for about an hour, so this right out of the box. Multiple scratches on the side and top of the lockbar, almost like it had been forced together, or previously carried. (Bought from National Knives, who I trust and have used many times)
Not only the scratches, but as you can see it doesn't sit flush. When in the locked up position the lockbar sticks up a bit towards the pocket clip and then proceeds to dip below the contact point with the blade, and is visibly recessed below the scales. Looking at my other backlocks, they are all flush across. The lock feels smooth and engages and disengages just fine.
I'm not sure if that will be an issue in the future, or is something I can tinker with and fix on my own? This will be my primary around the house knife, so quite literally an everyday carry.

And to a lesser extent, it is a bit off center. Which I know can be a common issue with LW models, I was just hoping I'd get lucky. It's not rubbing so again, not too worried about it. But it does add a little to the flaws.

After waiting for 2 years, I'm very excited to finally have it in hand, but admittedly am a bit disappointed with the craftsmanship on this particular one. I got it for $100 and some change, so I'm not trying to make a stink about it. Just pointing it out for Sal and the crew. Excited to start carrying and putting it to use!!

I had that same lockbar issue with a number of native chiefs. for all the talk about golden lockbacks, I never had any from japan that were as poorly aligned in that respect.
in fact I got into the habit of buying 2-3 of every native chief sprint and selling the ones that had the worst alignment and keeping the best one.

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
@TkoK83Spy - that lockbar alignment isdefinitely not normal for the model. I picked up an uncoated lil native lw and the lockbar is flush with open and closed position. Your example seems pretty extreme.

coated models tend to be worse than uncoated when it comes to this.pinchyfisher wrote: ↑Tue Oct 14, 2025 5:48 pm@TkoK83Spy - that lockbar alignment isdefinitely not normal for the model. Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??
@TkoK83Spy Nice! I got mine in today as well. I've had the uncoated version for a while now too, so I had an idea of what to expect with this one.

My first impressions are similar with both, I like them, but I think I'm happier with the DLC version for one specific reason - the opening hole provides more thumb traction than the uncoated tumbled finish version. The tumbled finish removes a little bit of traction from the opening hole and that is my one gripe about the uncoated version so far.
Also, the lockbar sits flush on my uncoated versions but the alignment is definitely off on my DLC versions. I have two right now and one is visibly more aligned than the other. The lockbars on the uncoated versions are aligned very well with the scales.

It sinks down towards the blade tang and sticks up in the handle. Notice how the lock bar sticks up a bit. (This is the one on the right in the photos above.

This one isn't as noticeable but it is slightly prominent of the handle. (left)
